H & M Lofts Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 Hi Lads, weve been flying a few yrs now and this yr we really want to have a good go at the distance.. ive seen on a few dvds that they only select a few races before the big one is this what most of you on here do? also how do u prepare a bird for the distance ie: how many races do you like them to have as a yb then yearling and when u pick a long race how many races would you like them to have and what length of time on the wing ect... really interested in all your opinions as im only just starting to fly the distance this yr so any help would be great Cheers lads H & M

OLDYELLOW Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 With distance birds I only send to 3 / 4 young bird races just purely to show them the ropes and school them without burning them out and let them mature . As yearlings I race up to 360 miles although I may send a few further .In a distance loft your looking for a team of two year olds +. The more patient you are the better they will be
OLDYELLOW Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 No joy with linkhe's bumped the thread up
Guest LBuddle Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 Our Babys don't get to much, all they have is a few 20 miles by car and 3-4 100 miles on a training waggon. The 2yr old on over all have to go to 500+ miles Internationals. The 2yr olds only go to 1 but the 3+ yr olds have to do 2x 500+ mile Internationals. In Preperation for this they have 1-2 inland training races at 100miles, then 3-4 Channel races out to 260m. We like them to have 6-8 hrs on the last flight about 10-17 days prior to basketing for their first International race.

yeboah Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 should have added once i find the birds that are breeding distance winners im not so hard on there youngsters as long as they are well trained to make sure there is no weakness but when trying to find them out they get all the races before my money goes on them as 2yr oldsVery Good advice WalterJust back in from carrying out some loft work for a close friend who is a 4 times national winner from 500-600 mlsNothing fancy about the way he sets them up But Very Good Pigeons bred for the job in hand

Delboy Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 Walter what is your pigeons preparation after they come back from the eight hours fly until they go into the basket for your target race? Never mind Wattie, you tell us yours Jim, you have a decent record at the main races.
dal2 Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 Walter what is your pigeons preparation after they come back from the eight hours fly until they go into the basket for your target race?Wrap them in cotton wool til basket night

dal2 Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 I will write that in my loft book in case I forget it.Good lad
lanarkshire lad Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 Never mind Wattie, you tell us yours Jim, you have a decent record at the main races.1st 3rd 6th 17th 28th region E at the SNFC Gold Cup over the past seven years its no as good a record as Jim Hannahs but i am happy way it but trying to keep it going is the hard part as you know. There is nowt fancy way my methods after the last preparation race I gee them aboot a week to do what they want then its work way the flag for about an hour each night then about 5 x 50minute tosses up to the sat before basketing and I try and get them sitting aboot 12 days as I think it is the safest condition that's aboot it Derek. Oh by the way I would like to gee them longer tosses but as you know the peregrine problem is usually at its height at that time of year so its dodgy as futt for us in this area to go further.
