I received a letter tonight, that says, my club has taken a decision to temporarily suspend us from racing old and young birds for the remaining of the 2008 season. The decision was also confirmed by the Midlothian Pigeon Federation president and secretary. I only hope that all club secretaries within Midlothian Fed have been informed of the decision as this will have far reaching implications for their members, as any loft that has the misfortune to have any health problem will be able to be suspended from racing. We have never been invited to any club meeting to discuss this and even offered the club secretary to get a vet in and test our old birds(we have no y/b team) and if they came back clear then there was no basis for us to be stopped racing. This offer wasn't taken up.

It should be pointed out that the health problem is in a loft 2 miles from our own lofts and all fanciers who have had y/bs bred in our lofts are more than happy with them.

MY OPINION ONLY CONTRAVERTIAL IT MAY SEEM BUT HERE GOES .

I THINK THIS IS A DIABOLICAL DECISION BY A FEDERATION WHO APPARENTLY DON,T WANT TO HEAR FACTS , OR EVEN DISCUSS THE FACTS WITH THE FANCIER IN QUESTION

ARE THEY OBVIOUSLY GOING BY HEARSAY , OR HAS SOMEONE WENT OVER THE TOP

WITHIN THERE FED AND TOOK THIS DECISION ON THERE OWN SURELY YOU HAVE TO HAVE EVIDENCE AS TO THE CIRCUMSTANCES BEHIND THIS CASE , OF SUSPENDING SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER BEEN ASKED TO SHOW  ANYONE AROUND HIS PREMISES OR HAVE A VETS CERTIFICATE TO HAVE PROOF OF THE WELL BEING OF THE PIGEONS

THERE MAY OR MAY NOT BE SOMEONE WHO CAN SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS CASE

AND COULD COME FORWARD AND TELL THE POOR BLOKE WHERE HE HAS GONE WRONG

OR CAN EXPLAIN THE DECISION TAKEN BY THIS ORGANISATION

I don't know any more facts than those published above.

What is wrong with the pigeons?

I know I developed Para in my unvaccinated (at that time) youngsters due to allowing a stray into my loft. Even though my old birds were fully vaccinated I stopped racing as they would obviously be disease carriers. It is common sense to stop racing if the birds are not right.

Perhaps the actions of the federation are unjust. Who am I to comment without further facts. I feel you should raise a formal objection and that should at least postpone the ban till the case can be aired fully.

Good luck.

Kenny can you be more specific? Why has a ban been placed covering a whole season? What health problem are we talking about here?

I can only go by my own procedure last year when I suspected I had a health problem in my birds. When I was told I had a respiratory infection, and the birds had to go on a 10-day course of medication, I voluntarily informed my club secretary of the position and what the illness was, and told him I would miss the next two races for definite, perhaps three.

Rumours can spread like wildfire, and I wanted to be positive that the right folk knew what I had, and how I was dealing with it. No point in telling folk you have 'a health problem'. Means different things to different folk. The year before I was absolutely livid when after telling a club mate my youngsters had been vomiting (after drinking out a gutter, since cleaned and meshed-off) I was accused of having YBS in my loft and still racing my pigeons.

My own opinion on this judging on facts that are available its very wrong to suspend this member from racing from Loft Location B,this can only be based on "assumption" or guil by assosciation,by setting this precedent,it stands to reason ALL who had occassion to visit this Loft Location A should also be banned from racing, this would also include incubation period of illness, which fancier has not hidden,or disguised, whatsoever, and at time of posting correct dignosis is not apparently available yet, nothing that warrants banning is based on facts, this should be fought all the way, otherwise based on this assumption,we are setting a precedent,if your birds are ill, allegedly, you can be banned from racing.

Kenny--as I read this thread I begin to understand more fully.

This is because of the single loft race. I am very sorry to hear this. Perhaps being honest and open has worked against you.

I have a friend who runs a one loft race in Canada. He is called Andy Skrobot. He told me that accepting pigeons from all over was a big problem. He told me (and it's something I would never do with my own birds) that he added bleach to the drinking water and this cut down on the chance of spreading infection. I believe this was on the advice of Dr. Marx from USA.

Theres something not right here, hopefully certain individuals will step forward and explain thier actions. :-/

There is always two sides to a story etc  ;) ;) ;), but for what I have read here if it is true. They are a bunch of   hillbillys, the people who made this decision & I would never wish for them to be in charge of my federation. Have they never heard about common courtesy & natural justice etc. To me !!!!!!!!! the first thing they should have done, if there was a problem ???????? in this loft, was at least inspect it with the owner on site & then if they still had concerns etc. Bring in a qualified vet in pigeons, to make the final decision the way I look at things.

Still !!!!!!!!! it's  :( but it takes all types.

Enjoy.

I was through seeing Kenny last thursday morning and i can assure everyone he is doing everything right by the birds in the 1 loft race and has never hidden anything from us ( i have birds entered in the 1 loft race aswell ) yes there may be a problem in the 1 loft race loft but how the heck can they suspend him from racing his own doos? it's unbelievable and the people concerned should hang there heads in shame and as Bart says talk about kicking a man when he's down ::)

ps...i would have answered this right away but it was only pointed out to me earlier :B

i think there is a rule that says pigeons can be refused at race marketing if found to be sick or lice mites etc. if it was me and there was nothing wrong with my birds and they refused my birds i would be calling for a void race

obviously stevie you have not read the letter that kenny has posted , for you only the trouble he has is at the one loft race birds nothing to do with his old birds at his house did you not have your glasses on or do you have a white stick , its the officials of midlothian fed that needs a rule on and have them explain themselves

THEY WOULD NEED TO CALL A SPECIAL AGM ....I CANNOT SEE WHY THEY CAN SUSPEND A FANCIER...BUT I,M NOT A PRO

I would obtain a health certificate from a vet or DEFRA etc to give them a clean bill of health and then send this with a legal letter threatening court action to the club and fed!

Then watch them squirm!

Phil,

Could not agree with you more,i really feel for this guy.

One of the reasons i have returned to the sport,is one loft races such as the one in Edinburgh.

These take a lot of hard work to run, with little or no help from those with power within our sport.

The work Kenny done here encouraged and inspired me,nothing the powers at be have done has contributed to my return.

We have always had these king of problems within our sport. One word of warning though, we will be unable to come to any conclusion until we know all the facts

In the meantime i would like to wish the Edinburgh loft and its supporters all the best.
