my convoyer rulebook clearly states that birds must be rested after travelling a distance for no less than four hours.

Firstly I have never complained at any time in the past or intend to in the future regarding any of the convoyers who are in charge of our birds as I have always held them in the greatest esteem.

It was to be a magnificent and enlightening report John posted informing us on basics what was the duties he was carrying out enroute to Buckingham, I posted originally what I believed to be the way forward for the future with perhaps the SNFC Management Committee wishing to look that way.(wishfull thinking).

I took the position of experience and looked at the Marking Station times starting at Aberdeen, John rightly stated that birds would have been basketed and away from the loft from 09.00 Hrs on Thursday without water, Dont they put drinkers on the baskets at Aberdeen ?. The Aberdeen baskets would then be taken to Dundee where they would be offloaded and drinkers put on in the wait to depart to Novar in Fife Where I assume they would be given water again before placing on the transporter at 18.00 Hrs. Therefore the North birds and the Transporter would have been on its way to pick up the remaining Marking Stations. To my way of thought their would have been 2 drivers working in tandem and although the transporter left Gretna at 01.30 it could and should have been in Buckingham at 06.00 as overnight travel down the M6 is extremely light. I dare say one or two people might wonder how it took so long to reach Gretna when Springfield marking station closed at 21.00 Hrs. This post is not intended to belittle anyone as it is my view on the situation with our birds now facing their third night in a basket when we all knew this was going to be the case and perhaps been avoided as done with other organisations.

well said Peter we are a bit behind the times on this aspect though , but im sure the lads will be looking after the birds 110% , just think its another day away from home for the convoyer ( some might like that ) and its a cost in monetery terms every day the birds are held over

Good post Peter. Nobody is ever having a go at the convoyers, we only are debating whats best for our pigeons. Two 7 tonners could've taken the birds down instead of using Johns own artic and another transporter. Different rules for an artic but if 2 drivers on it ( which there should be )then no probs and the birds would've and could've been up on Friday. So what you've got is the hire of Johns lorry for 4 days minimum instead of 2 as well as expenses and convoyers wages. A pretty big bill that could've been easily halved. Still, not having a go, business is business and if I was John, Id do exactly the same but I disagree with all the posts that said it is a THANKLESS JOB, its well paid imo.The weather is still dodgy for tomorrow but slight chance early imo.

Went back over every thread no one questioned the convoyer or drivers. The point I was trying to make no one knows if the birds benefit from a rest of four hours. Seems like it is a prefrence of fanciers.
