hotrod Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 Went training on Saturday after race from 25 miles , lost two l,breds , birds a bit scattered , went Sunday same place , birds well strung out lost a two yr old hen and a yearling cock both trained the day before , but the thing that baffles me is when the main batch homed most of them around 12 of them flew and flew for almost 4hrs including toss time ,some were over 4hrs , kept them in today till 15.30 let them out up the went most doing 45mins and back on loft , but the ones that were up the day before kept going again some for 3hrs plus , one a two yr old cock was up for 4 hrs 5 mins and the last one a yearling spare cock only landed just short of 5 hrs , ps the weren't away sitting as I sat and watched the the whole time . Oh and I'm a yearling hen down. , that was my second bird from Sundays toss , any thoughts guys ? Ps while they were up others were on loft / ground back and forth up and down u name it ,but birds didn't want to land .
andy Burgess Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 I would definitely look at some sort of scare ? either at home or whilst away ??

Ps while they were up others were on loft / ground back and forth up and down u name it ,but birds didn't want to land .Been having a few similar probs , taking days from short distances, coming scattered, and losing birds that have flown 150 mls and been on open hole all winter, and when they do come home they fly for over an hour even after being out over night . The birds look and handle great . It has me stumped .Hope you get to the bottom of your problem .
frankdooman Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 Don't know if it's anything to do with it but some of the birds cuming from the race on sat flew and flew
hotrod Posted April 22, 2014 Author Report Posted April 22, 2014 percy way up above m8 had it hear yesterday 7 birds flew till near dark because the bassa was way up abovefor an hour or soRab your thinking the way I am , Sundays toss Percy prob at them ,so had them spooked , out yesterday ,one hen gone ,Percy at them again.? So again spooked , def nothing at loft scaring them , even when they land the are caroooing around etc not jumpy or anything , and I've had them fly and fly homing from races sometimes 20 mins half an hour , but this is 3. 4 hours they are up , but in saying the above about Percy , they are dots in sky at times during their stint , usually if Percy strikes they go very low near roof tops and trees , I'm still baffled , think I will keep them in for a few days ,let them settle down .
hotrod Posted April 22, 2014 Author Report Posted April 22, 2014 Had a call today at work , the yearling hen lost off top last night reported at RSPCA place in Hamilton , was picked up in Clydebank last night , it's got a dodgy wing , a big thank you to big alf for going to pick her up for me , bird now safely home and back on her eggs . I wonder what happened to her , from flying round loft with team to being found on street injured over 10 miles away ?????????.
billt Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 She surely must have been chased away if she is on eggs
JohnQuinn Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 percy I'm with you on it Rab, defo percy.
greenlands Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 If you have problems round the loft with Peregrines try one of these,it will shift them,my mate scared the hell out of one a week or two ago.Load in a piece of plastic pipe and you can aim it in the percy's direction. http://www.portek.co.uk/Rockets_Index.html

It's a strange one . Ps I have a starting gun that fires a hilti type cartridge it's like a shotgun going off , from tiger ,which I have all set and sits inside my back door .
b.massey Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 If it is Percy your birds are doing diff things from mine. Mines can be high but drop like stones onto nearest roofs and them I know Percy is about! They do anything but stay in the sky, instinct tells them save when landed! I have seen Percy swoop down trying to get birds to lift up but they know not to fly, once Coast is clear they fly over to loft and in ASAP! If I try let them out the next day they go out one door and in the next door! Just too scared to come out! Signs of that hen going missing then showing up injured are signs of Percy attack but constant flying is not
