Groats - it was the GENIUS that is Phillip Hastie that introduced me to them.

"If they are good enough for race horses, they are good enough for pigeons"

This year is the first time I've used them in any notable quantity and the young are up with finest reared I have seen :emoticon-0157-sun:

Geo was watching the big country on the telly and just now had a wee look at your question, old jock puts about 4 pounds of groats into a tin and mixes cod liver oil through them mixing for a couple of days until the oil is only slightly visible on the groat exterior,he gives them in pots when feeding in the nest and also when the youngsters are shifted. :partick-thistle-Crest:

I use porrage oats when rearing the doos love it and the ybs thrive , but may try groats one day .

a groat is a porridge oat

Porridge Oats are bruised groats. Groats are the whole seed de-husked.

Beat me to it , but do think porridge is good for them too ,

What I am finding is the stock birds will not at any time eat the maple peas in the breed and wean not even if hungry?

some of us also had this problem a few seasons ago me to so i told gibb of galston i did not want maples if there were gm grain and not had a problem with them since the pigeons just would not eat them whether it was because they were gm or had been sprayed with something i dont know but when i changed to non gm it solved the problem eastcoaster i now tend to think if they dont eat something when hungry they are telling us its not right jmo
