Guest chad3646 Posted March 22, 2014 Report Posted March 22, 2014 I am talking about legislation against predators attacking racing pigeons,I do not think it is gonna happen walter you are correct the rspb is getting bigger, the pigeon fanciers smaller
BLACK W F Posted March 22, 2014 Report Posted March 22, 2014 Don't think we have them here yet jam ,but don't want them by the sounds of them .i was told the other night they are about 1and1/2 times the size of a spara hen , and just chase and chase until they catch one even into trees .stuart they been up in Aberdeen area this last 10 years if they up here u guys got them
eastcoaster Posted March 22, 2014 Report Posted March 22, 2014 I have my own health treat for the Sparra and three have loved it so much they ain't coming back fact as for Percy paint them doos .
yeboah Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 was at a pigeon panel a few weeks back one of the guys told us that if the peregrine is having a bad nest they replenish the nest with young from the people that breed them in aviaries so that takes nature right out of it and we should be able to do something about them but I agree think its already too lateThat is 100% correctWhich is no problem whatsoever to an organisation which in 2010 had at their disposal for charitable causes the sum of £94.7 MILLION !! U
jamjim Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 pigeons attacked for about 15 minutes this afternoon never got any but newmains lanarkshire
frank-123 Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 I had it from a good source that the RSPB released a pair of goss hawks in 2011 at the site of the perchy pond in Lanarkshire that year I lost 7 birds before the racing started saw a couple of attacks take place but to far away to say what they we're.I believe this year will be one of the worst as we have not had a hard enough winter to kill some of them of. On a Rspb forum 2012 there were confirmed sightings of the goshawk hunting at barons haugh in Motherwell.
Delboy Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 On a Rspb forum 2012 there were confirmed sightings of the goshawk hunting at barons haugh in Motherwell. As I said in an earlier post, a goshawk was attacking Eddie Harrisons pigeons 2 or 3 years ago.He said it was relentless, a complete hunting , killing machine. He is in a scheme in Ruchazie too.
gulkie Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 The RSBP are a joke ,a number of years ago I got a card through the door from them asking if anyone in this area had seen any long tail tits and would we fill in the card to report them as they are finding that the population has all but gone.So to rectify this they have introduced a pair of goss hawks felking anisis they have the IQ of a pot noodle.
john cumming Posted March 30, 2014 Report Posted March 30, 2014 goshawk distribution according to RSPB the green shaded area around inverness and black isle can be extended east covering most of the north east of Scotland ( moray, Banff & Buchan, Aberdeenshire ) john

Once they start flying, it stretches a bit, but by then they know their way out and in.I once moved a YB that had been bred for a sale over into the YB end so it wouldn't get scalped. I was in a rush the next day and just opened up the YB's. I thought I would be ok since it probably wouldn't find its way out and if it did it would stay with the others. Whomever bought it would have no problem breaking it because it had only been out the once. When I returned home I had one YB missing, yes the less than four week old for the sale. Finally had it reported about two weeks later by a non-fancier in Ceres, Fife. With help from this site I got it back and it is now in the race team. I hope its experience serves it well. At least it managed to escape what I can only think was a BOP attack.
