Red Eye Cere

I have a couple of ybs that have very red eye cere's ! No sign of any one eye cold or anything else they just look sore , just wondered if anyone could give some info .

some familys of birds get red ceres

as the birds condition/form improves it gets darker/brighter

ive some janssens that have this

I'll probably get shot down but here goes it's either within the strain or red mites Have two whites with pink eye ceres off Kirky

When our fancied pigeons come into real form the Ceres are Pink.

No not swollen just redish pink and funny enough they are janssens .

Sounds more like just in the strain to me

Gave them 2 drops on their tongue with a very small dropper of raw baytril for 2 days

Problem solved

Put it down to respiratory

Lots of other fanciers had the same problem that year ?

Don't think red mite as they have not long been on moxidectin recently , it's really just an observation.

Don't bloody encourage him he will have enough on his own lol , not sure mate will ask him . I thought of respiratory so have left them to see if it got worse but not seen any others get any symptoms .

Try the baytril on one of them

Should get it of anyone who looks after pheasant s

The reality. Send them. If a reddish Pink great. Means that the blood is being pumped round well by a good healthy heart and in great condition. It's called 'Eye Lining', or 'When they have got the make up on'!

if it was mine i would use golden eye drops their ment for us.used them on dogs and birds with a bit soreness in their eyes cleard them up well.

as long as its not inflammed and birds scratching, or watery eye, i would leave alone, and wouldnt worry. But as you said its an observation, so observe how they fly/perform.

 

NO need for anti-biotics especially baytril.

Its too sore on the birds and used properly can be effective ...but used on a whim like 2 raw 2 days on tounge imo is not good unless perscribed.

 

too many people jump for a drug to cure something thats maybe not there...ok baytril is broad spectrum ...buts its mis-use is creating harder strains of bugs and ruining the birds liver.

I will continue to keep my birds in the best of health as I see fit and let others make there own decisions

In the wrong hands a little knowledge is dangerous

Ps the yb that I posted the picture of a few weeks back after nearly loosing its head to a falcon the vets did not expect it to survive after they stitched it together sent it home with my daughter with some baytril and it is flying with the others

Mick baytril can be a wonder cure...but only as a last resort. It should be respected and not mis-used or under dosed.

 

for years ive built a family around natural immunity, and last year ybs crucified me. In the 10 years i have pigeons ive only used anti-biotics twice and both times it was a flock problem and i sent to vet for the right meds.

 

i dont race week in week out like most...its more like a hobby to me and i send when i can. But can assure all birds are trained and healthy.

 

again IMO ...if it takes anti-biotics to keep a race team fit and healthy to compete then we are in the wrong game. All that is going to do is breed weakness into to the young that they breed.

that is correct the medicine i use for the dogs and the birds i get it from the chemist, just tell them it is for conjunctivitas excuse the spelling it cost 3 pound odd, go to the vet same stuff 16 pounds
