why did you not ask to have the bird in question removed from the basket? you would be well within your rights to have asked this

my thoughts exactlyhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0138-thinking.gif I would certainly have said something if it were my club birds. It does not take much for a disease to go through the whole baskethttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0138-thinking.gif

walter you should have said to some one about it and got the bird removed

thats all we need is getting our birds sick

the problem jamie is people dont think its a problem and i dont know if they get it by eating the feed thats been throwin up or they just need to be near them and pointing out someones birds are sick does not go down to well m8 if its the virus as i think its to late if birds were being sick in the baskets last week when they were training it will be through the fed in a week or two no matter what we do it only needs one bird to start the chain and its been started by someone thats jagged there yb coming out the nest because there to lazy and stubborn to do it properly at the end of the old bird season the way the maff told us to

Paranoia! I dont think an old bird chucking up is grounds to remove it from the basket.

then why do you think its being sick if your sick its because its your body is trying to rid its self of a problem in your gut its the same with birds and all mamals tony mark my words being sick is the start just wait and see birds are chucking up for a reason if you dont heed it you will lose them

I have to disagree with you Walter. You have to look at all probabilities, traveling, excitement, gorging prior to basketing, feeding young are other reasons why a pigeon could chuck up. Pigeons have thrown up in the basket since year dot and well prior to Adino. I know of a couple of fanciers that I swear you couldn't get another pea in their pigeons crops on basketing, they most have purposely missed out a couple of feeds then fed them all they wanted on a Friday, these pigeons rattled in come the race. I dont disagree with you that old birds can indeed go down with Adino but in most cases their crop goes spongy but they dont throw up

for some reason i cant anser andy burgest post andy pigeons do not get travel sick if they vomit somethings wrong m8 how anyone can think its ok to race birds that are vomiting is beyond me and some on here think this is ok im not saying i know what it is but i know what its going to be so let them get on with it hope they will have the guts to come on in two or three weeks time and admit i was right im saying no more on it

can i ask why do the birds get a feed when they are just about to race?ive taken my birds to plenty of shows and the car journey causes birds to vomit in the carry case.to prevent this happening i give a light feed early evening before and the crop is usually empty when putting them in the car.does the seed get digested before the birds are liberated?i dont know how long it takes from basketing to releasing the birds.

oh yes they do m8 anyway i stand by what ive said before and now on the subject wait and see cause if its happening here it will be happening all over in weeks and we will be losing birds that should be getting home ive said enough no more

adult birds can get adenocoli too,its the pigeon fancier that calls it young bird sickness.was this particular bird still put in for the race or did the fancier take it back home?

certainly not Paranioa Toni m8, always better to be safe than sorry. JMOhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0138-thinking.gif

so out of interest, did the bird get removed? and did the regurgitated food get removed also?

Have seen crates at the training were pigeons have been sick. 100% maple peas, this is in the morning, have no doubt it has been feeding young birds in the nest and the fancier lacking sound judgement decided to stick it in a training crate after gorging itself, instead of letting it finishing its young birds.

ok , what would be the best course of action ?? to prevent ?

Its time fanciers in Scotland and the UK for that matter alter there breeding cycle, many fanciers have still got anaul program of not pairing till March, thus not having the racing pigeons in condition for the start of racing in April, if there is adeno about, then pigeons being sick in the basket is all that the sport needs.

1. Have young birds weaned 2-3 weeks before start of season.

2. After young birds are weaned give some sort of cure to the old birds for e coli, such as parastop, etc

3. No feeding given to racing pigeons at least 4 hours before basketting for either training or racing. JMO

I would worry if it was young birds not old birds ,they have a better immune system , probably sick because of the travel to the club

Yes, young birds is a whole different ball game.
