The clock debate is a entirely different argument the problem some fanciers had was the advantage ets had over the conventional clock which no doubt it has

However my preference for wicker baskets is that I think the birds are much happier in deep shavings which can't have in Geraldy crates which are usually dressed with cardboard and easybed which does stick to their feet. Jmo

Jock, the main advantage is location, you know that. Everybody has access to ets but only some have the right location ;)

Derick the point I was making that the clock debate was entirely different to transportation, as far as the debate about crates and baskets I am only giving my preference.

If all our birds had ever seen was a wicker basket then I would not want them going away to a race as important as a National in a Geraldy Transporter for the first time.

May be part of the reason the National decided not to use them for this season. I know there was a vote the other year and it was only for one race but the fact it was defeated at the AGM. As someone else suggested it maybe be better discussed at AGM for future racing. :

so what happens when the snfc goes with the MNFC , yes you guessed it. GERALDY crates , and they have done this many a time ?

Just been on the official SNFC web site and wonder why their are no statements regarding transportation quotes nor Newbury race.

I am steadily frustrated at the lack of information from a well paid full time Secretary who apparently treats the membership with contempt.

I personally cannot find anywhere in the rule book regarding wicker baskets nor was their any mention of them at the AGM

That's great that you can use shavings on these state o the art transporters also

Just the way it read on the last post I thought you could only use paper

How many birds could each tin box hold at nat level

Whos transporter is Fife using when theirs is away on SNFC duty :emoticon-0127-lipssealed: I cant believe it could be a Geraldy :emoticon-0138-thinking:

Your opinion is valued Jock but on this occasion, I think it is wrong, just my opinion, lol.

I was at the AGM when this came up. It was during John Houston's stint as President and it arose in connection with Almond Valley Fed's offer to convey the Gold Cup birds that year in its Geraldy. It went to a vote and was defeated. The President also asked a question about wicker baskets. That's all I can remember but it should all be in the AGM minutes, but I can't remember the year, nor can I find my past AGM minutes.

The SNFC have a website, info is poor, the winning pigeons photographs have not been added to the Gallery since 2008. Been told its going to be updated for the best part of 2 years, the SNFC in my opinion is a sleeping giant at present.

I was also at that agm the vote was to go with the almond valley geraldy or stick with the old transporter and wicker baskets ,john hood stated to the hall after the vote that he felt a wonderful opportunity had been missed,I voted for the wicker and wish to this day that i had not when hearing from a very good fancier who went with the birds on many occasions and he clearly feels that there should only be 16 per crate for the france races as birds especially cocks are not getting to the drinkers because of dominant birds ,a top fancier stated at a moot not to long ago that he was at the barcelona lib and many baskets had no drinkers on when he put a drinker on and poured a bottle of water in the birds were killing for it sure it was reported they lost in the region of 30,000 and we wonder why ? Am i correct in thinking that the geraldy has access to water on 3 sides if so surely common sense should prevail jmo.

Not drinkers on 3 sides Mick, but drinker is full width of crate. Some 5-6 inches more than a wicker basket.

If its the fife fed trailer thats going to newbury, can someone from fife tell me how my pigeons are getting to leicester on the same day? Since my fees paid for the trailer it better be going to leicester.

Another little problem I have is ; Fife have reduced their quote by £2000 from last year !!. This suggests to me with rising fuel and ancillary prices that Fife have been taking the SNFC for mugs and ripping us off with our committee treating us as imbiciles. Perhaps Ian would like to explain how Fife were able to make this gesture ?.

Posted

Ive been on the committee 3 times, what about you??

No I have not been on the committee because work prevents me from attending evening meetings in central Scotland and I could not guarantee being available to run a marking station.

expletive remove, of course theres no evidence to say you would have a better race from Geraldy.Does Geraldy transporters make them know the way home, lol. What a mental statement.

If you read the thread you wont see the committee criticised by me, in fact I said ''hard working, unpaid committee,'' but certain officials, thats different.

What is mental about it? There are posts on here saying it is better for the birds in geraldy transporters. How do they know?? Personally I don't care who`s transporter is used and I don't mind if its baskets or metal crates. I don't like seeing birds on corrugated paper, I prefer shavings but that's just my opinion. I also think the transport costs for some races last year were ridiculous but it is up to the committee to scrutinise this. If they have got a 20% reduction this year that is positive.
