Depends on what type of race they get I find a light feed say depuretive if a hard race

I put glucose in the water and feed maize lots of sugar.

First feed consists of pellets/condition seed/breeding mix in equal parts then fed again 3-4 hours later with racing mix. Nothing is added to their water.

Its interesting seeing how much feeding has changed over the years.

Ma old pal told me of when he'd watch channel races at Jocky Harrison's of Lesmahagow. The birds would come home after a 12-14 + hour fly and have nothing but horsebeans on offer. They'd have to batter them off the ground just to swallow them :emoticon-0136-giggle:

Don't know about recovery rate etc but these guys could get a doo out of 2 x 500 mile races and a 600 mile race over a 5 or 6 week period

Told the brother that a few years ago but he no believe me!!

Peanuts- they love, they digest easy and they are full protein to sort any damage to muscles ets.Plain water- because the birds drink more if nothing in water.

it depends on how far race was if 60 miles to 200 then for me just a good balanced mix with a bit extra protein so as to replace what birds have lost racing .i up the protein if it has been a hard stiff race.200 to 400 i use a high fats and protein mix to help repair muscles and put back what weight birds have lost racing. can,t comment on race 500 plus as no experience yet and fanciers with more knowledge will know best. always only water in drinker

THE OLD MAN KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING

PROTEIN VITAL FOR REBUILDING MUSCLE STRUCTURE

AND THE BEST THING FOR RECOVERY "MILK"

soaked maples and sea salt in the water, try it :emoticon-0138-thinking:

Sea salt only in really hard races where birds return totally fekd with dehydration.Alot of folk think salt is salt but how wrong they are!!!As Wacko obviously knows, sea salt is the bollo..s and is totally different from any other.
