bullcock Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 BANG ON M8Between now and end of March is deadly for Sparrow hen attacks, they are fatting up for sitting there eggs, once there down on eggs they tend to go for prey they can carry back to the nest, and leave The pigeons alone.

Guest geordiejen Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 unfortunately lofts with avaries are a magnet for preditors, these birds can see our pigeons in the aviary and will come back time after time to see if there is any birds to prey on.

Walter swanston Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 If you let out pigeons at this time of year it is your choice but be prepared to have them attacked by hen sparrowhawks and eaten alive.
lastdrop Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 if its kills more than once its ur fault Just hope you don, t experience what I did then
cemetary Posted February 21, 2013 Author Report Posted February 21, 2013 If you let out pigeons at this time of year it is your choice but be prepared to have them attacked by hen sparrowhawks and eaten alive. When ma pigeons are out, am always prepared for the worst, you cant keep birds in when the weather is fine just now, they have wings to fly.
billt Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 When ma pigeons are out, am always prepared for the worst, you cant keep birds in when the weather is fine just now, they have wings to fly. There are plenty of lads with early youngsters that must be flying out, one lad on another site was saying he's just weaned his 2nd. round

MIK Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 i feel for all that are getting hit. im in a built up area and have it relatively easy but my most dangerous month is march. The SH hen is an animal at this time and often comes into built areas to feed before lay. however they are still an animal and need fed, its up to each and evry fancier how to feed them or "not". As i saw posted earlier lose one = act..lose 2 missed chance...and lose 3 means your prepared to let it happen. atbMick
