Roland Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 A very well renowned, and respected person who races pigeons and is a Vet plus many other fields said ' ..........I attended a seminar presented by a pediatric gastroenterologist who mentioned that human babies who are breast-fed develop a life-long population of protective bacteria in their intestines. No doubt, the great use of antibiotics has disrupted these great populations of normal, helpful bacteria in many of these babies. He was also surprised and seemed amazed when I mentioned the use of probiotics in domestic birds and mammals to try to protect against pathogenic bacteria in the gut. ...' On the same token, when one distroys gut bacteria, which they think is needed, it also distoys all the good ones too.
greenlands Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 This is something that as always puzzled me and no doubt someone will point me in the right direction.Q.If antibiotics destroy all bacteria ie. good and bad.Why are the birds droppings to our eyes good ?Q. ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, .Why do we use different antibiotics for different ailments if the above is correct ?Or do all antibiotics kill the good bacteria and not all the bad ?

peter pandy Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 Why anyone with a brain cell would give their birds Baytril is beyond belief.!! It KILLS ALL negative and positive bacteria plus stops the growth phases of bacterial replication.!! It is banned in America for Poultry use and has a number of adverse problems. BUT hey ho you will know best..

greenlands Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 I know where you are coming from Peter, but if an antibiotic kills all the good bacteria how does the bird digest its food and have good droppings. :emoticon-0138-thinking:
andy Burgess Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 I know where you are coming from Peter, but if an antibiotic kills all the good bacteria how does the bird digest its food and have good droppings. :emoticon-0138-thinking:and a further question Lindsay ,i know we are different creatures to pigeons ,but when prescribed antibiotics by our G.P./ Doctor ,when the course is complete does he then suggest we eat whole some yoghurts or take multi-vitamins to increase our inner bacterial strength ?? p.s. i think i know the answer
Roland Posted February 7, 2013 Author Report Posted February 7, 2013 Nature does and will remedy our stupidity often. But we so very often hamper it at our detterent I believe. Does it kills eggs? Indeed does bacteria lay eggs. We know it doubles every 15 minutes.

Guest IB Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 The gut bacteria have two main jobs: they are part of the digestive system, and they are part of the immune system. Bacteria are numbered in billions. You can't kill them all. Think about the clap-trap adverts on TV 'kills 99.9% of all known bacteria'. Sounds fine, but what is 0.1% of 14 billion? And the sting is that those that survive the antibiotic are generally resistant to that class of antibiotic, so if it is say a penicillin-class bacteria it's resistant to all penicillins. That is what MRSA is - a staph bacteria (staph aurus) that is resistant to all penicillin-like antibiotics, a superbug. So you have those superbug survivors doubling in number every 15 minutes. Doesn't take long before the original 14 billion are back - and no, there aren't any new antibiotics coming out, it isn't financially worth while because bacteria quickly become resistant to them. Probiotics release billions more beneficial bacteria into the gut - these are natural antibiotics. Lactic acid bacteria can kill salmonella - they blow them up 'oxidative burst' is the Sunday name for it.
