Kyleakin Lofts Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 right in the middle off the country south off the border about 40-60 miles into england or its about time we started raceing birds down the middle ,then there would nt be the bickering about advatages off raceing down the east and the west There is no middle, it is either the A1 / M1 on the East or the M6 on the west. The middle is the Pennines and I don't think there is a road right along the top of them. It was said earlier, what is a true race distance because it varies for all entrants and the birds don't fly in a straight line. Truth be told, to win a National you either have to be in an excellent racing position, have the wind on your side, have the other elements on your side and have a huge smattering of luck regards the dangers on route. For most to place in their section is their true guide as to how they have fared. It is in their section that the vagaries are more fairly distributed.Having said that, the same names appear on the National result time and again, so these fanciers make their own luck by having the correct birds for the job, the correct management for the job and the correct amount of effort put in to gain their achievements.
alex wight Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 CAnt speak for all the south section but I like to send to the yb nat but only when my team are plentiful!! Since Leicester has been the race point then it has NEVER been better than 50% returns!!! I have had good results in the section before but NOBODY down here sends to the yb nat for open results just the section??? Maybe the drag has got an influence but never seem to get any reported up the east?? Interesting as well. Do young birds fly themselves done? realising that they have overflown, then need to double back, possibly being too far too handle, thus destroying themselves? Its all ifs and buts and maybes, with the only solution being that trackers are fitted to some section birds. For the benefit of the SNFC, why don't the SNFC put up 2-3 trackers per section, have volunteers fit them to their birds, and then conduct a survey. I,m sure there's enough finances in the pot to cover costs, after all it may just help the SNFC in the long run. Only an opinion.

Guest bigda Posted January 25, 2013 Report Posted January 25, 2013 when i stayed back down in Wales the amount of Irish birds that were stuck this side of the water was un-real given the problem i can see that as they buy the new crap breed of bird where as there fore fathers left them all birds that could do it but what did they daft ar ses do as the Scottish guys did got rid, for the jansen and such like and then find out they where only bean eaters they then never changed since to get or improve the distance racing and it has now gone over 100 years and still they have not added much in improvement to distance racing and still buying birds from foreign places that have a different terrain to where there intended bird has to fly as it stand they are still trying to make honey out of dogs sh it.

[newbury]cheltenham. maidstone. alencon. yrpes. niort. y/birds. leicester. as far i can see bigda. the better races are with the snfc.

They dinny cover 400miles of sea??the name of the game is flying who wants a bird than wants to go down for a drink and has not got the constituion that lives in your loft what you want to be a pigeon racing man or a pigeon keeper. who is the boss you or your birds in your shed.if its the birds are boss in most sheds dont stand in the way of the guys that want to go a bit further just say you are out, but dont just put your hand up just to stop the guy going forward. the vote is always for the best we can achive not they other we are scared to achive.
