I was present at the SHU meeting when this was discussed. At no time did I pick up that there was any political motive in the Show's arrangements. I also got an email last week which clarifies why Classes 1 to 7 were put in:-

Scottish Homing Union Olympic Year Show 8 December 2012

"Please scroll down to view details of the above event which we hope will receive wide support from SHU members throughout Scotland .

You will note from the information provided that racing handling classes 1 to 7 are specifically aimed at SHU raced pigeons. The reason for this is that the show circuit in Scotland has diminished greatly in recent times and with little opportunity for our members to show their pigeons over the close season it’s hoped that these special classes will generate interest from the ordinary fancier by encouraging them to come along, and enjoy a pre Xmas day out.

Entry forms will be circulated soon and if you want further information meantime please don’t hesitate to contact the SHU Office

Yours sincerely"

I remember long ago maybe 30 years seeing flown certificates being signed by folk in the show hall after the birds were judged. If there is any doubt the organisers should ask for copies of race entry forms with rubber ring details or ets print outs. By the way I think memebrs of any union should be allowed to show in racing classes. Think the flown certificate thing is just a red herring.

to add to the above suggestions of improving on the rules for verifying flown pigeons at shows when a exhibitor enters pigeons in a show he/she should supply the name address and telephone no of the secretary of there club then the show secretary can go straight to the fanciers club secretary for copy of required ets sheet or entry form for races required missing out the fancier giving them no chance to falsify documents

Got to agree with this post, No matter what is organised there will NEVER be any chance of pleasing EVERYONE and that is fact! What we have here is a group of people that have went out on a limb to try and get something up and running. Hats off to them I say, yes maybe they have made mistakes at their first attempt, but if we can support this venture and encourage them to keep things like this going then they will get a feeling of what fanciers are looking for and can hopefully begin tweaking things for the better, for future years.

As the previous poster has stated "things will never change untill there is no sport left". I think it is about time we started trying to focus on the positive side of things instead of picking out the negative stuff before it is too late, as I feel we are rapidly running out of the good guys that are willing to work their butts off trying to make things better for no reward.

We see it all here during the race season, all the armchair race controllers etc. I was under the impression that the show season was supposed to be a time to socialise with other fanciers, compare birds & ideas and try to have a bit of fun during a quiet time of the year.

We should ALL support this show if possible, enter our birds in whatever classes that are available to us and let everyone see that it isn't too late. The future is still in our own hands, but maybe not for much longer!!

the fact that an email has been sent to clarify the situation speaks for itself. the explanation suggests that fanciers participating in SHU races are the only ordinary fanciers in the UK. i wonder what the reaction would be if the big NEHU show and Blackpool show introduced a blanket ban on all SHU members participating. poor, poor show.

The fact is, there isn't a blanket ban on anyone!!! There are classes there for anyone, that really want to show their pigeons.

I don't see any point in trying to guess what the reaction would be from quoting NEHU & Blackpool shows, as they don't do it.

Why not just be grateful that they are trying to get something up and running, and give the guys a chance to make things better in the future ??

Totally agree why can't fanciers just support the people that are trying and working for the sport. Every time that something new or different is organised why do others try to pick fault. Support is what is needed or a sport that has given many people great enjoyment over the years will be no longer.

John you are out of order with that statement you are putting everybody who shows in flown classes in non shu flown races under suspicion of cheating way way out of order i for one want an apology from you immediately

Don't hold yer breath, i've been showing RACING pigeons at all the shows available to me for 20+ years and i know a doo that has been crossed and never raced when i see it, and in almost EVERY racing class under 300mls i see these doos in the flown classes and know fine well they aren't PURE racers and have never seen a basket.

I don't mind showing against these doos as i don't take it seriously enough but a lot of fanciers have been put off going to shows because of this (FACT) and that is a sad state of affairs for a £10 prize and a twopenny card but some people will go to any lengths for a pat on the back and a red card.

As the show is not until December a stroke of the pen could have made all fanciers happy

I see where you're coming from but I'm afraid these days we will NEVER get all fanciers happy. It's just the way things are :animatedpigeons:

The majority of dipped doos in the uk show scene are shown by scottish fanciers and the shu show is encouraging them by making them only flown and not putting a decent distance on it so they will have there dipped doos there in force

As for you saying these guys are not racing there doos an open forum is not the place to put this as other fanciers who dont show much might start thinking someone who is winning a lot might be the one who is cheating and then the wrong person is getting accussed

For the record Donald, i believe you to be one of the finest pigeon fanciers who Race and Show their Racing pigeons in the Uk, there is no question of that and i have stated this to many fanciers over the years.

However i have to disagree that i am making any Accusations, everything i have written on here i have personally witnessed many times and will no doubt see it a lot more. There is imo very little that can be done about it so I put my trust in the Judges that they can identify these birds and leave them out of the tickets. If they don't, i go home quite content that i've had a nice day out and seen some fanciers i don't see from one show season to another, yourselves and Andrew included.

Most Sincerely i wish you a very successful winter and still look forward to seeing you again. Atvb John.

No problem John you have always been complimentary towards us and it is appreciated hope to catch up with you at a show somewhere that all classes are open to all members of all unions
