I was always lead to believe that captive birds were not covered by the same protection as wild BOP.I wonder if the law differs in Scotland ??

Thanks for the link.

I hope there's some sort of error in the prosecutions evidence which might help him avoid a serious sentence but it looks as though they have him by the danglies.

Is he not allowed too protect his birds in his own garden

fair enough the guy fuc$ed up but some of the information given is well P***

the price of the bird for a start is WAY over estimated a male peregrine generaly goes for between 500-650 and the handler saying that you had to pull of the birds leg to get off the telemetry transmitter is a load of rubbish there fitted to a small metal spring clip and are easily removed. for two main reasons 1 being the birds safety in-case it gets tangled then it is possible to come loose. and also they cost a bomb starting at 150

what in don't understand is why these wee smelly papers get away with printing although the fancier should of kept his trap shut :emoticon-0127-lipssealed: :emoticon-0127-lipssealed: :emoticon-0127-lipssealed:

what is even more alarming is that these idiote MSPs can sanction this expenditure to keep birds away from their buildings.

In other areas the criteria is more simple-remove the food source or install a bird scarer.

I wonder what contribution the SHU made to defending the guy and publicising the case.

you cant train a bird of prey not to attack pigeons this is total crap, what you will have to do is put the birds weight up untill you still have some control by hunger but taken the edge of hunting so the bird wont put as much effort into the chase.gust of wind my *expletive removed* they have probaly got the birds weight to high and it decided to take off which they when not hungry.

hope they dont make an example of him

By the sounds of it the guy has panicked and started blabbing which put him in a horrible situation of having to do something with the remains, lets hope after the background reports that he only gets a fine and not a prison sentence. I'm sure there will be more than myself at helping him pay his fine.

:scotland: :scotland: it must have been some air rifle and some shot to kill 1 of these bop, wish this carryon could be sorted out, wouldnt it be good if we could call some kind of meeting with rspb, police, pigeon fanciers, and anyother interested parties to sit down and work out a solution before the s**t really hits the fan ? :emoticon-0138-thinking: :emoticon-0138-thinking:

Here's your chance to comment. Please do your best to draw out the pertinent facts here - as given in the Report - don't post the usual anti-RSPB crap, this isn't a wild bird, it's somebody's pet killer. Since when have they the right to lose control of them in a built-up area?

£3500 paid for an untrained Falcon + the cost of training. We then add the cost to replace the falcon lost, at least another £3500 plus training the second bird. I would estimate a final conservative bill of £15,000. I will watch this posting to see if the punishment fits this horrendous wildlife crime here.

Surely this bird isn’t a wild bird? It is a hybrid – a cross between 2 birds which don’t mate naturally – then reared in captivity – and was outwith the handler’s control when it landed in a private garden.

This falcon was kept for a specific purpose, to hunt pigeons. It was trained to ‘chase’ pigeons, and landed in a man’s garden who just happened to keep them. He said it was going for his pigeons. The bird’s background suggests the man was telling the truth, and his killing of it was humane and done to protect his own birds.

In my opinion the pigeon fancier was perfectly within his rights to shoot the bird.

You can train a Raptor not to take pigeon/s before i got into racing pigeon's i flew raptors purely at game... Whilst on field meets you would look a pratt being a professional Austringer with your bird/s checking even at wood pigeon on a field meet in front of others having your dog gone on point after picking up on a cent of lets say partridge....

raptor by this and the term austringer i persume you flew either broadwings or short wings not a falcon. hawks learn quickley not to waist time chasiung things they aint gonna catch so the hawks knows if it has a chance or not if you are slipping hawks from the fist with dogs on point in open fields it will chase whats put up.if you want to fly spars or a gos at pigeons they need a close slip to be able to catch one and without that your hawk wont stand a chance hawks are sprinters, and aint stupid and if your hawk was free and a pigeon came close if it thought in was within its ranger it will chase it hawks learn quick.falcons will chase pigeons and all game a fair way it is not trained to refuse to chase pigeons they put its weight to reduce its hunting drive being an austringer i thought you would know this.also the peri/gry hybred bird is not a pure peri im not sure how the law will work on this with it being neither one or the other species. ex falconer

if the birds a cross peri its a mungrel so how can it be protected.if a dog worries the farmers sheep he can shoot it.if the old man gets a fine we should pay it for him.then buy him more amo

sorry guys but i dont have any simpathy for the guy.firstly if he managed to kill the bird take it away and dispose of the body why did he throw the transmitter away close to where he lives?why did the silly old clown admit to shooting it?he could have got away with that easily.ive seen these transmitters before and they cannot tell you where the birds been only roughly how far away it is and in what direction. :emoticon-0136-giggle:
