alex wight Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 Our federation missed out the chance to get an awards for all lottery grant to purchase a transporter. Having contacted our good man Ian Mckay, he informs me that our fed has missed the boat, which is pretty pisss poor on our feds behalf. Are there any other ways that we could get financial help to purchase a new/different transporter. Regards alex wight

alex wight Posted November 24, 2011 Author Report Posted November 24, 2011 i,m aware that it depends on what you have in the bank, but we would have to ask the members if we are willing to use the funds plus a grant, to get the transporter. if they disagree then thats the end of it. I,ll look into the coal regeneration. cheers
Walter swanston Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 I bought a transporter for the Solway four years ago this winter. It was done by using a transporter fund (virtually several years of young bird sales etc.) and then asking the members of the federation to consent to what amounted to a levy on each member. This was done at an AGM.We made it a rule that anyone declining to pay the levy culd not have their birds transported . This caused some trouble but eventually everyone fell into line All this is not easy but it can be done but you might not make too many friends

alex wight Posted November 24, 2011 Author Report Posted November 24, 2011 Wane like this would cert do the job for the fed. Very nice dougie, thats dream stuff lol. only holds 108 baskets tho x20 birds =2160 total. Our birdages at its highest was over 2700?. In saying that we have lost 9 members to date approx 200 birds per week. 340 to much, something to work on tho. regards alex.

Walter swanston Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 A treasured memory of the introduction of our new transporter was when it appeared with its specially adapted live stock type curtains(you know the type with a multitude of small ventilation holes ).An experienced fancier wanted me to go over the curtains and improve the ventilation by poking extra holes with a red hot knitting needle----------------------I assure you he was serious.
just ask me Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 are you thinking of buying the lorry as well as the trailer
tyson Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 we had the same problem in midlothian when we built a new transporter plenty negatives with only a few willing to help run sales etc best of luck mate you will soon find out the workers
alex wight Posted November 24, 2011 Author Report Posted November 24, 2011 i,m just looking at the possibilities, to see what suits the fed members best. joint convoying wasnt supported but i,ll be looking at that as well just to see what the pros and cons are. at the moment the membership are in favour of replacing our trailer due to the cost that it takes to pull it. comparing it to having ur own lorry, its double the price, so its a no brainer. however if we struggle for the new lorry, we will have to rethink along the lines of joint convoying. No stone will left unturned during the next wee while. it would be nice/ideal to have it all sorted out for the start of the season (end of april). thanks for the comments and best wishes, its much appreciated. regards alex.

WulDon Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 Wane like this would cert do the job for the fed. a geraldy is the way forward, but a definite dream for most of us... the aberdeen fed done it the write way and have a superb modern transport system for there birds raising the cash is a complete struggle these days, as stevie-b mentioned we raised an obscene amount of money for the fed... but all forgot about now! if every body mucked in a pipe dream could become reality, it time personalities were put to one side and every body got 'heads down and ars*s up' and focussed on feds transporting together and clubbing together in raising the dosh for modern transporters... it could be done but suppoort is required??

Ian McKay Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 Aberdeen Fed are up for convoying someone with this state of the art Geraldy transporter achieved after three years hard work and a lot of hard knocks :emoticon-0179-headbang: Tried before and got rejected but it's only a matter of time
