Not sure about how he handles that wan :emoticon-0136-giggle: .Imagine you could give the loft a good scrub down wi something.Think he uses a lot of shavings in his hut as well so he may spinkle plenty aboot and it'll make the cleaning up a bit easier :emoticon-0138-thinking:

Its no the way I'd do it but the man has few equals results wise.

Worms can and will burrow through the gut wall, so I would think starving them would be a bad idea, also 3 days without food would stress the birds out and make them poke about in all the nooks and crannies of the loft floor. The measure I use for Eqvalan is one notch(ie- between the arrows) to 2 pints on the advice of the late David Palmer vet. It is the only wormer I have used where you can actually see the worms as they come out in the droppings,if you have a heavy infection you must repeat the dose after 10 days, I usually spray everything with household bleach at a mixture of one cupful of bleach to a gallon of water. The best way to mix the Eqvalan is to put a cupful of warm water in to a plastic milk carton and shake it,then top up with cold water,it is also best to give it a shake just before giving it, as it settles slowly to the bottom.

We have used the norm, moxydectin, ivermectin, the tablets from chevita but i will tell you a true story we have brought in a few new birds this backend mainly for the distance which are housed in my back garden,i put fresh garlic bulbs in the water and just topped the water up after about two weeks i noticed worms in the droppings now i dont no if this happend because of the garlic in the water but the water has still not been changed and more galic bulbs added you can smell the garlic soon as you enter the loft,i intend to get the birds tested before pairing up in feb so it will be interesting to see the results.

also very interesting , so once treated for worms and given garlic on a regular basis , would assume they could not return due to garlic content in the gut ??

do you think that if you treat regularly with the sme stuff it could end up that the wormers dont work as the worms can build up an immunity?is t also true to a certain degree that pigeons have worms most of the time.

It's one of the many properties garlic has. I'm waiting on a response to an email I sent off last night to a company that manufactures garlic granule products for the agricultural industry. One kills insects that attack food crops & the other kills parasitic worms [nematodes] that live in the soil that attack food crops. I think they might be a good thing to add to my deep litter.

The results Graphs are good, but IMO the Key for them is too small, I find it difficult to see what colour the Key relates to in the Graph.

Well, I got a reply to my email - my filter had put it into my Spam folder. Must’ve seen the prices before doing that!

‘Sister company Breckland International supply a garlic biodegradable product to the Poultry Industry for poultry litter: Breck-a-Pill, cost £150 for 5kg., £500 for 20kg.’

That’s more than 15 X as expensive as Stalosan F. Way out of my league, maybe better called Brek-ra-Bank..

Was talking to a friend about worming doos earlier.Know of a top,top flier who believes the cheapest and most effective way to deworm yer birds is not to feed them fer three days :emoticon-0138-thinking:

This is usually done after the moult and he says it takes a bit of the weight of them as well

Whats the forum's thoughts on this ??

impossible would never work ask a vet this question give him a good laugh never heard so much rubbish ask your friend would that work on dogs as well i really dont know were some people get their info from tell him to get them tested after he does that then see what the worm count is.

Maybe so

Its not something I've ever done but without naming names the man who I've heard that practices it is one of the most successful fanciers in Britain of all time.I do however doubt very much this is the sole reason for his success :emoticon-0136-giggle::emoticon-0136-giggle::emoticon-0136-giggle:

His theory is worms need food to survive.A pigeon thats been well fed through its moult could survive for 72 hours without food,a worm on the other hand cannot??

Many years ago I read of an International Barcelona winner's methods which was. In January I take everything out of the lofts that birds can eat or drink, Lock the loft up and dont go near for 7 days. After the 7 day period of abstinance re-enter the loft and dispose all the inmates which have lost much weight. If you have a decent team you will not dispose of many and for the record I have carried this programme out for 30 years starting the Monday before Blackpool and finishing the Monday after.
