sapper756 Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 Has he been flying out recently? if so, he may have picked something up, I would isolate him from the other birds and treat as been suggested, if no improvement within 2 days, then I would dispose of him.http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0138-thinking.gif Good luck.
THE FIFER Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 get him isolated and clean and disinfect his perch
Guest peter4pm Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 clean and spray the section he has been in better safe than sorry.

REDCHEQHEN Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 Old birds can get 'young bird sickness' as well I am no expert - but since when has throwing up and green slimey droppings been a sign of canker Isolate - certainly It is as likely to be 'young bird sickness' with secondary infections (e-coli, yeast etc) and if the bird means anything to you - it needs to be attended to by a vet
OLDYELLOW Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 Well to bringing corn back up suggests a digestive problem if wont go down it comes up , so I would isolate the bird clean and disinfect the area this birds been ill , give a charcoal tablet starve 24 hours give only water and another charcoal tablet then feed a light feed with live natural yoghurt , it's my opinion the dropping are only the result of the digestive system stopping working once gut normality is restored the droppings will return to normal , if no change by 3rd day I would canker

Treatment isn't possible until crop empties naturally, there's no absorption there. Losing weight likely to be dehydration, bird is not getting water or food through its gut - that's what the green slimey droppings are about. Isolate pigeon without food for 24 hours - but make sure it has access to water.
Ulsterman Posted October 26, 2011 Author Report Posted October 26, 2011 thanks for the advice lads, i opened the shed door this afternoon to let them out for exercise, the past few days this bird hasnt gobne out wth them but today to my surprise it did go out and flew around with them for a while though it was first to land.i gave it an appertex tab for Coccidiosis 2 days ago maybe this helped and just to be on the safe side i gave it a 1/4 flagyl tab today. will keep an eye on it for the next few days. oh and no corn on his perch this morning at all,and just a few pieces of corn yesterday morning, the few morninngs before that there was a lot of corn.so heres hoping. thanks again.

I would still isolate it, until you are convinced it has fully recovered m8, as you don,t want other birds eating the regurgitated corn, which could pass on any infections. jmo
Ulsterman Posted October 26, 2011 Author Report Posted October 26, 2011 yes your probably right, will do that tomorrow,. atb.

Roland Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Have had the corn on perches sometimes. Just carried on as normal. Soon bad to norm. Yes first off I was anxious, but 4 years on, have never had any last, or bad effects from / because or after. But that doesn't mean you should seek advice, please do. Better 'Safe than Sorry' i guess... but more importantly 'Peace of Mind'.
budgie Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Bin it no matter what it has done.Look at your stock book check what its off and i bet you there are not many left.
Guest geordiejen Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 baytril should clear ybs but you must remember its a very powerful antibiotic, best to use something more specific for ybs and usually it all starts with stress, damp corn and it can be a mixture of bacterial and viral infection that runs the bird down.adult birds can get this too but its much more common in youngins as their immune system has not fully functional until a few months old.
