Blue Chequer Pied Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 About 20 miles east to west. We will be working off a breaking point this year to make it fairer for the lads in the west.

spike Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 About 20 miles east to west. We will be working off a breaking point this year to make it fairer for the lads in the west. All clubs should be measured from the birds breaking point. Or even try it on a trail basis
Blue Chequer Pied Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 great idea i think this is could u explain how it works We have used google map distance calculator to work it out. We selected a point then worked out the distance from that point to every loft in the club. The map calculator lets you home right into to individual houses. The distance from the race point to the breaking point is added to the distance from the breaking point to the lofts. Our birds fly a dog leg every week and in real terms some of the longest flyers have the shortest distance. This way it will make it fairer and the club more competitive. I am in the most favourable position in my club by a long way but this will hopefully help to level out the playing field a bit. Velocities will be submitted to the fed in the normal manner but the club result will be different. Paul.

Paul.this must be the farest way but how doo you no every week whare the birds bracking point is for example good birds will brake earlear than the ones that just follow the batch and when thares east in the wind am looking north for the doos coming back over every other loft before min lo
yeboah Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 great idea i think this is could u explain how it works My friends in ireland have been working this system for many years ,on normal measurements eg from race point to your loft is how all of us are measured knowing only to well the birds don't come on that line of flight ,am sure how it works from a breaking point you take a point where the convoy normally would pass over say ten miles short of first drop in your fed ,all members are measured from race points to breaking point then from breaking point to loft location thus giving the west flying members a truer flying distance that there birds have to actually fly much fairer for most but to no advantage for a loft located due north ,that's the best i can explain it Hope you can make some sense of it ,am sure this only applies to federation races if agreed by majority of members but not in national racing .
Blue Chequer Pied Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 thanks mate i had a idea about it that explans it better and fair play to admitting your in a good spot not many do it Good position in the club, *expletive removed* end of the world in the fed
yeboah Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 Good position in the club, *expletive removed* end of the world in the fed Your Lucky worst position in club also *expletive removed* end of world in fed but at least we no when we get a winner its a topper
Guest youngboy Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 if im not mistaking i think since 2 new members it is 8/10 mile raduis
Blue Chequer Pied Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 Your Lucky worst position in club also *expletive removed* end of world in fed but at least we no when we get a winner its a topper It depends what you class as lucky. The worst feeling in pigeons is when you 'win' a race and know that the bird in 2nd really beats yours. Not much fun.

Not much fun.Was 2nd section gold cup many years ago beaten by less than two minutes and only getting 9 miles overfly from the winner when in fact you could not drive to his location in 50 minutes the winning pigeon was a class doo that had won previously and was owned by one of life's gentlemen but with the strong NW wind that night my bird was miles in front just beaten by location these are things that we have to accept and just get on with enjoying our doos .
gulkie Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 All clubs should be measured from the birds breaking point. Or even try it on a trail basissurely the wind determines the breaking point
Roland Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Is 30 miles east to west and North to South. We won't be working on any breaking points.... I hate for my pigeons to be flying miles of course, and out of their way most weeks - depending on strength and direction of winds. But of course as we nothing there is no such thing... just an fesist to please and believe we are helping the birds.... When of course the main thing is getting miles under their wings and fit and conditioned. But that is another topic I guess.
Dave barrie Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 well done to paul thompson on using breaking point for a more fairer way to fly doos in the club, first short races i think it would work, the further doon we go i dont think it will matter so much as the birds are spread oot and take their own line home, mebbe he has started something here and more clubs will try it oot, ithink every member should have a fair crack at the whip on a very uneven playing feild.
Williedoo Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Would a club that race with a breaking point have to make out two different results, one for the club and one for the Fed and would it not be possible for a club member to be 1st club and a different member of that club to be first Fed.
paddymac Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Ours is 10mls shortest flyer and 6mls longest flyer.

Williedoo Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 WILLIE YOU CAN HAVE THAT WITH A LIMIT IN YOUR CLUB Yes you could if you had to nominate the birds in your limit.
Delboy Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 About 20 miles east to west. We will be working off a breaking point this year to make it fairer for the lads in the west. Good on you Paul, trying to get fairness into the sport. The guys that lie the furthest east or south east mostly always have a penalty kick on the rest. The wind does determine alot BUT the main drag is a bigger issue.
