Guest bigda Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 all this complaining about east v west maybe the east coast men have better birds and are better fliers, after all its the same names that are doing it every year credit where its due ,jmo they would have no problem then of a change in direction with all there credibility intact
johnc Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 so if they changed direction you would not here of these guys again dont think so just sour grapes
johnc Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 so bigda if you lived in dundee you would beat these guys every race
Guest bigda Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 so bigda if you lived in dundee you would beat these guys every race race out the west and there game would be ended try Ireland first skibbereen, then hire a boat take the birds out to sea due west, every one has a true measure no obstructions for any fancier the first birds to break from Ireland and wind assisted would win, and in the west it would be the Nat winner if you think i am wrong try it put year neck on the line i know the result, the east would win there section but thats all, the cost of a race would be about in including a boat hire to take them out to 500+ would cost £200-£300 all in the race would cost about £800to send them out to sea for the gold cup and they race would be fair

Guest bigda Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 i see what you on about with an offshore race thats ok for oneloft races but how can you get accurate distances from a boat, the same way as you get any measure longitude and latitude "x " marks the spot on the grid you want to chart i also believe if you use the sea the whole of the national could be that the mileage would only be 60mile to the furthest flier taken from a central point all flying 500 mile and the max 560mile
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Not been on the site much recently some interesting posts John Hodgson,Jammie Donaldson,Walker & Wilson,Jim Hannah they're all "gods" of Scottish national racing in my eyes. There will always be someone who has a "better" measurement than you even in your own village, street or compound.Realistically the only loft location you need to be concerning yourself with is your own. RACE PIGEONS NOT RACEPOINTS enjoy your pigeons and their performances in 2011
Chris Little Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Getting back to the topic of Liege. When the SNFC had a race from Liege in 2001 what was the race like in terms of returns

Guest bigda Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Getting back to the topic of Liege. When the SNFC had a race from Liege in 2001 what was the race like in terms of returns dont think the returns is the problem think its more to do with the overfly and the lie of the land
Chris Little Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 We never sent any either Steven so I have very little recollection of how it went and who timed what, there was a cracker timed in Annan and also Kirkintilloch Danny, I am more than aware of the measurements etc, just after a response on how the returns were in 2001
Guest bigda Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 race result from liege 2001first L mc kay carnoustie
Guest bigda Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 We never sent any either Steven so I have very little recollection of how it went and who timed what, there was a cracker timed in Annan and also Kirkintilloch Danny, I am more than aware of the measurements etc, just after a response on how the returns were in 2001 what i do know is 90% of the east"enders never went so dont think there many birds away
Guest bigda Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 would this be to far east for the national http://www.daftlogic...-calculator.htm 446 mile to glasgow
frank-123 Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 We never sent any either Steven so I have very little recollection of how it went and who timed what, there was a cracker timed in Annan and also Kirkintilloch Danny, I am more than aware of the measurements etc, just after a response on how the returns were in 2001 was that the race jim hannah of blantyre was 2nd open to jim farmer
budgie Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 was that the race jim hannah of blantyre was 2nd open to jim farmer The race point was Chenoise which Jim was 2nd to Mr Farmer2002 flying distance 582 mls vel:-1136 630 birds.
Guest IB Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Helpful to see some of the distances for Liege. Acknowledge that the further East you go, the 'overfly' shrinks, but IMO the number that's important is '500' miles, and Liege falls far short of that for those flying into the Borders. I think the Gold Cup race and Longest races should be set at a minimum of 500 miles and 600 miles respectively into the Borders. We already have 1 x '400' mile channel race, Ypres, also Belgium. Quite apart from the commmorative significance of the race point, another attraction was that it was to become an International race. Don't know why that hasn't happened but I feel there is room for Scotland to compete in an International race, most of which are from Western France (where some on here would like to fly from) Dax, Pau etc. Wouldn't that be a more fitting longest race, testing the Scottish pigeons in an international contest?
mealyhen Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Could anyone from the SNFC management committee give a reason for the proposed change of race points i.e Bovington - Rivenhall Eastbourne - Folkestone and especially Reims- Liege
clockman Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 George, step forward The members will get told at the agm then they can vote what way they want
