lanarkshire lad Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 What would you consider to be the best pigeon you have ever raced and what breed was it? Mine would be my Hen that won 1st West Section SNFC Alencon 540mls in 2008.This hen when racing was the most honest pigeon that i have had, it didnae matter what distance she was racing from she always tried her best. Her breeding is Brugemann bros x Jock Allan of Symington.
kirky Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 had a few but best distance bird would have to be a kirkpatrick x dordin flew france 19 times scored 16 times.
Guest mick bowler Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I had a hen that struggled inland, so last race of the season sent her unpaired to her first ever channel race at 481 miles and she came on the day only 4 birds home on a very tough race, she was 3rd. She then went on to win Sartilly the following year doing 1800+ YPM, and should of topped the fed, but my distance was wrong and i never appealed in time (was 2nd but less than a yard), and also 481 miles again on the day, only 2 home. She flew every channel race then upto a 4 year old, and won cards in 80% of them races i would say. From 481 miles, she was 3rd, 2nd and 1st (only bird on day), in 3 consecutive years, all on the day and never more than 4 home. I think she had something like 4 x 1sts, 3 x 2nds and a couple 3rd and 4ths when she was eventually reported dead. She was a Janssen x Van Reet.

JohnQuinn Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 2003 Ch Ck, "Told You So" This Ck was the best i have raced since being on my own.He was 1st club, 14th Section 33rd Open Lanarkshire Fed, Maidstone 361 mls 2004, winning £388, he was a Latebred carrying 4 Nest flights, untrained/raced as a Yb. Also scored in Yearling Derby 5 weeks earlier, 248 mls.2005 he scored from Maidstone again, 4th club 16th Section 32nd Open Fed.2006 2nd Maidstone to a White Ck i broke and raced that same year, this Ck was also 1st Huntingdon a week earlier. I sent both across to Lille with the Fed, all my club mates knew about the White Ck by now and were egging me on to Nominate/Accumulate the White from Lille, the accumulator had not been won all year, but i was insistent the Cheq was the better pigeon despite the Maidstone race, The Cheq Won 1st club 4th Section 17th Open, lifting the accumulator and winning a colour photo, so named him T,Y,S, because i told everyone he would do it. i could have burst out greetin when he hit the loft, only ma mate was there or i would have, no kidding!! My SNFC Ypres Section winner is from an inbred Dghtr of him.We went down the west the next season and i dropped him from 180 mls!!!

JohnQuinn Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Guid performance pigeons the following year should be left off the road for one year.? I'm no so sure about that, it seemed all the Gold/Silver award winners last week scored in consecutive years, a couple had 2 wins in one year but i don't remember hearing any gaps in the years between wins.?
REDCHEQHEN Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Guid performance pigeons the following year should be left off the road for one year.? Interesting - why? I ask because of the following 2 year old cock was 3rd club 9th fed (1887 birds) 55 miles - a few weeks later was 192nd out of 24,199 birds 258 miles, then 2 weeks later he was 1st fed and section 13th combine 19,069 birds 317 miles the following year he raced half the season and was not trying so we took him off the road and he has never raced since, he is a 2005 cock
Delboy Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Had a few, with my grandfather to score in Rennes 3 and 4 times ( before Gold awards ). Recently, my Gold cup section winner " Waterside Peggy" was a fantastic racer/breeder She was 1st,2nd, 4th, 5th Open in fed races and then was 1st west section,5th Open snfc Liege.( winning 2 x SHU awards )retired at 2yr old. She is responsible for over 50 SNFC diploma winners, best being son" The Jinx " 2nd west section Gold cup and this year her g,son Spider winning his Silver Award. Peggys granddam was another fav of mine. Lady Linda was 2nd,2nd,3rd,3rd section F in SNFC channel races, her best being 7th Open Sartilly. She was responsible for loads of distance winners inc, Sonnybors, 1st Open WC COMBINE Sartilly, as a yearling.Beauty, 2nd west section 11th Open Tours etc etc etc. They have been a good line of pigeons for me

taffacre Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Young blue van reet cock, won 4 races on the trot, well up in the fed on every race.Let him out with the rest about 40 on a sunday morning, and he was picked out by PERCY the only one. Sad day that. Also had BLUE PIED COCK Van reet won 6 firsts for me then i sold him to a mate near me when i packed in. Got a phone call on the second race that the birds were due, checked out the old loft and the pied cock was in his old box, threw him out and he was 2nd club. THe following week the same thing, heard him out the loft ,threw him out again,he won the race and was 2nd fed,Brilliant pigeon, wouldnt mind another like him.
dal2 Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Had a van reet cock that my dad named george(Albertz). Six first in club with two first feds. He went to every race and you could put yer hat on him upto 250miles then he started gan backwards. He had a trip over the channel and arrived home next morning fresh as paint so never bothered tryin again. Eventually lost him as a six year old. Have had few get upto 3 positions in first fifty nat racin but that gold award is no easy tae get!!Yer next good un always takes yer mind off the last.2006 Falaise 1st secta 4th open never scored at any race but was in prize list every race in 2006 before gan tae that race as a 4yrold.
