Pigeon fancier knowledge wanted! Are there any pigeon posts in existence anymore?

I'm an artist working on a artwork celebrating the homing pigeon and am interested to hear if anyone uses pigeons to send letters or messages.

Any leads, contacts or advice, please get in touch!

Many thanks!

there is a pigeon post, if it can be considered that somewhere in america, where a photographer takes photos of white water rafters, he then places the film on pigeons back and releases it, so it gets back to the gift shop, where by the time the people have finished the trip all photos have been recieved and printed and waiting for the punters to buy.

I thought there was a hospital in London using pigeons to transfer samples from one to tother

Can anyone else remember this or confirm it

Remember an article on this subject in the RP Pictorial some years ago.

I remember an article in the Pictorial and the front page had a picture of the pigeon loft on the roof.If my memory serves me right the hospital was in Portsmouth and the loft was on top of the laboratory and they sent blood samples in containers on the birds back.

There was an article not so longer ago complaining about the broadband in South Africa - it was quicker to attach a memory stick to a pigeon and it fly a 100 mile or so - than download something from the internet and send by e-mail (or something like that)

on the radio the other day there was an artical where some parts of the country are so badly covered by Broadband

they were actualy going to have a race with pigeons to see what or who would be the fastest

a lot of fanciers rang the show offering to let there birds be apart of the trials

Im sure others must have also heard this show and i will be looking out for the results

if I find out I will post results here

Frank & Ann Tasker took up the challenge, it was on the BBC however they have now taken the video down, but there is some linked to it on youtube. Ray Knight had some heavy involvement.

I recall seeing on tv, some theme park ride, or white water raft ride, where a photo is taken at the start, and the film is carried by a pigeon to the end, where your picture is ready for you as you exit the ride, but can not recall wherehttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif
