Delboy Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 have the young birds race out of galway most times west wind the bravest birds leave the isle first have no hawk to contend with out at sea and coming in from the west to the east there are no hills to get blown behind the velocity will be up and think every member will have there true measurement as there will no be any obstacles in the way, and Percy will not be on that side of the cost when they hit our shores not to the extent they are at moffit and the lakes most members will get 270 mile from there and the north lads will get 300-350 no change there the cost for the ferry would be £800 with 3,000 birds away 30p per bird max you will need to try something failure to do so will be on every one of yous as guardians of the distance sport Ye know Danny, it is food for thought
Guest bigda Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Ye know Danny, it is food for thought if the Irish lads can do it against the wind you would all win a watch flying with it
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Dont know how we get more members to compete but we certainly wont get them with a negative attitude to the race, you should be leading by example and sending more birds and encouraging your Fed to have longer YB races and the birds would be more up to the task. For the last 25 years I have done all that you have asked in your post above including getting members to fill out applications for the young bird national race have proposed longer young bird races in the fed but that has failed or the races have turned out to be disasters. Perhaps I could have a more positive attitude like the men who have the first 2 pigeons in the west from the ybn but the sacrifice is that they have only 3 young birds left after starting the young bird season with 70, high price to pay
Rebus Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Sorry Gareth but i dont remember any disasters recently from the YB National, remember the race is 250-60mls to central Scotland + the 40 or so dogleg into the west not a easy task for a young bird or old bird for that matter on a hard day like yesterday, and some birds are not up to the task for different reasons, state of moult, unfit or unlucky to meet up with bop which we get every week.
Jumbo Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 A big well done to Roddy and Colin Rae for being 1st region G, 4th open. great performance ,
novo10 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 just wait till u get over the sharp then see u will want an other egm 2 change bk try gettin race controlers 2 speak 2 each other that will make a diffrencejohn ive raced both sides as u know and lost birds on both sides so at the present time the west is best for us jmo
JADE Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 My own club Larkhall is a national minded club that sent 4 birds between 2 members, the west section of the Lanarkshire fed with 170 members only had 6 members competing from Leicester now how do we encourage these men to compete once more, i gave proposals to shorten it and moving it to the west but this was scorned at. Now please give your honest opinion on how to get more fanciers involved in this area or do we just go for the status quo and let the race in this part of the country die  If your own fed wont go west there is no chance of the national going west although I dont know what you would call west as Stafford is not much west of Leicester. I think you have to try the west route with your fed to get the birds on their right line. You will lose birds to BOP but we all lose them on the east anyway. Leicester is right in the middle of the country so should be as fair as you can get for everyone. The wind and weather you cant control. I dont know the answer but you asked for an honest opinion and thats mine

jonl6280 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Yip, very well done to T.Keenan on his national win, what a feeling it must be to win a national, very well done. is it offical?? if so where?
yeboah Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Don't think it is a case of having a negative attitude . Bottom line is that you will never get better numbers to a race until you sort the BOP problem. That is it in a nutshell whether you like it or not. Everyone wants to go to races with bigger numbers but come that stage of the season no one has many birds left. END OF. My own Fed adjusted the mileage for Y.B. to help us to have better numbers come yearlings but that has gone now with the losses so back to square one . Seems it doesn't matter where you go it ends up the same result. It is now so serious it is difficult to get them from a toss now. Well said Davy 100% correct
JADE Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 full result will not be done yet. 1st 3 in each section are notified to committee so they can verify
elanco Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 U got to be in with the committee to know !
jonl6280 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 full result will not be done yet. 1st 3 in each section are notified to committee so they can verify surely the full result must be done in order to work out the first three from each section??i think wat your saying is its not offical yet??
sj irving jnr Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 we have 2 inland nationals,so why not have 2 yb nationals?,one from the east and one in the west?
sammy Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 why not make it from bournmouth or weymouth middle of country and over 300 mile or dorchester they have done it before so why not now
