Think this could/should be the race the SNFC test for illegal substances . I think every section winner should be tested in every national, dont you think?

WHY TEST SPECIFICALLY IN THIS RACE DEREK???

Posted

If its made compulsary and written into the rules then there are no arguments or appeals etc by those that get tested.

WHY TEST SPECIFICALLY IN THIS RACE DEREK???

I didnt say test in this race specifically Alan, I said I think testing should be done in every race.

Derek how genuine is the testing process have you ever seen the result report

Ive not seen any reports Ian but I would say a blood sample is the most accurate and undeniable way of testing.

You were on the SNFC committee the same as me I asked to see the report was told it would be at the next meeting still waiting

Just what are these birds being tested for Where and why are the reports hidden after all they are supposd to be clear so why hide them

I dont believe they have ever been done and will continue to believe that till a report is produced

I fully support drug testing, each and every bird that features on a result sheet should be up for a random test.

I have still yet to see a documented list of what is classed as a banned substance, this should be clearly communicated by SHU / SNFC

If for example a bird is tested after the yb national and is found to be positive there is nothing stopping the owner claiming he didn't have a clue what was an illegal substance

To All Federations and Officials

The President Mr F.A. McCluskey contacted Defra regarding AMP-5.

The Defra statement below will be discussed at the next general meeting of the UNC Federation delegates. They can then decide how best to handle this issue, with a view of amending the Drug abuse rules at the AGM. This statement has also been forwarded to the NEHU.

******************************

Dear Fred

The Veterinary Medicines Regulations (VMRs) set out the controls on veterinary medicines, including their manufacture, advertising, marketing, supply and administration. Under the VMRs it is an offence to administer a veterinary medicinal product to an animal unless regulation -

a) The product has a marketing authorisation authorising its administration in the UK, and the

administration is in accordance with that marketing authorisation; or

B) is administered in accordance with Schedule 4 (administration of a veterinary medicinal product

outside the terms of a marketing authorisation) or Schedule 6 (exemption for small pet animals)

Part 4. Regulations 25,26 and 27 concerns unauthorised veterinary medicinal products and can be viewed at http: \v\\Av.op5i.gov.uk si si2Q09/uksi 20092297_en_l. These detail who may/may not import, be in possession of and supply an authorised veterinary medicinal product. AMP-5 is not authorised UK veterinary medicinal product and therefore the purchase of this product over the Internet is not permissible under the VMRs. It should be noted that anyone who does not meet the criteria set down in Regulations 25,26 and 27 is committing an offence by importing, being in possession of an supplying on. It follows, therefore, that it is not permissible for this product to be administered to Racing Pigeons.

With kind regards Loma Shelley. DEFRA.

Snfc follow from what I remember the guide set out by the RPRA, and tests should be carried out in every race including this week. ;)

UNTIL THE UNIONS PRODUCE A LIST OF BANNED SUBSTANCES THERE IS NO POINT IN TESTING FOR ANYTHING

THERE COULD BE EVERYDAY PIGEON PRODUCTS THAT COULD COME UNDER THE BANNED UMBRELLA

IM ALL IN FAVOUR OF TESTING BUT A LIST MUST BE SUPPLIED FIRST NOT JUST MADE UP AS IT GOES ALONG

never heard of that amp5

so google says

otent vasodilator to increase blood flow to cardiac and skeletal muscle

Composition

Adenosine-5-monophosphate 200 mg/mL

Features and Benefits

AMP-5 is indicated for use in anticipation of severe cardiac load in performance horses, as well as in situations where increased blood perfusion to lower legs and feet is required (laminitis, lower leg wounds), or in treatment of myocardial oxygen deficit as evidenced by performance linked ECG changes. Because of its ability to improve tissue blood supply AMP-5 is of value in preventing Tying Up Syndrome.

Indications

By producing a marked increase in blood supply to muscles and heart, AMP-5 increases the oxygen and essential nutrient supply to these areas during hard work, and improves the efficiency of removal of waste products such as lactic acid, to delay the onset of muscle fatigue. AMP-5 is of value in treatment and prevention of Tying Up for these reasons. Because of its potent vasodilation effect on cardiac muscles, AMP-5 is effective in treatment and prevention of heart strain and exercise induced "T Wave" changes in horses.

Dosage and Administration

If AMP-5 is given immediately before anticipated severe cardiac load (hard work), it may protect a susceptible horse from exertional cardiac T wave ECG changes, and improve blood and nutrient supply, as well as waste product removal, from hard working cardiac and skeletal muscle.

Give Horses 10 mL by either paste or intramuscular injection, 24 hours and again 4 hours before hard work.

CAUTION:

AMP-5 must ONLY be administered by intramuscular injection, or paste formulation.

Do not administer AMP-5 injection by the intravenous route under any circumstances. This may lead to a profound rapid drop in blood pressure, with collapse, and even death.

AMP-5 is commonly used in combination with CREATINE, TRIPART or L-CARNITINE.

AMP-5 is safely used with all Nature Vet products.

Storage

Store below 25o C (Air Conditioning). Protect from light.

Presentation

20 mL sterile injection for intramuscular injection only.

The SNFC has listed all banned substances on info sheet they send out with race sheets to every member

As far as i know the list of banned substances is Non Exhaustive, meaning that if a bird was tested and the fancier had given it a performance enhancing substance that wasn't on the list, the fancier would still face dire consequences for it.

With the development of new drugs being an ongoing trade for those who would cheat their competitors, so the rules must mirror this in order to keep up to speed with new developments in illegal drugs, so although there is a list sent out as Derek stated, it is well nigh impossible to list Every substance on the market at any given time.

The message is this, give them nothing and you won't have ANY substances in them to be concerned about

I BUT IT DONT SAY WHOT THEY ARE WHATS CLASSED AS PERFORMANCE ENHANCING SUSTANCE ,

PIGEON TEA CONTAINING WILLOW [aparin] is an anti imflamatory non steroid

we could really do with a specific breakdown from the unions as to whats banned

maby half the pigeon products on the marlet mae be bombed oot

There is a lot of confusion about this subject and most lay-man couldn't even pronounce some of the names of these products nevermind figure out how to use them.(not that they would want to)

But one of the problems for me is when we buy pigeon products from shows or off the internet or whatever we trust that they are safe and legal for our birds but don't really know or think about illegal drugs.

It would be a travisty if a top fancier was positivly tested and disaplined when he never even knew he was taking illegal drugs.

The point Im trying to make is we need to approach this whole subject very thoughrerly and make sure all piegon products are safe and fanciers know exactly what they can and can't use, then there would be no mistaking the abusers, and we could throw the book at them with absolute certainty of the crime.

Agree with you Bullcock, access to continental products is to easy to get hold off and for me the best way forward would be for all Unions within the EEC to be goverened by the one Drugs control body, the Continentals are way ahead of British with guidelines, banned substances and proceedures so don't feel that we in the UK should be dragging our heals behind our proffessional European cousins.
