JohnQuinn Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Come this time of year i look to thin out my old birds, racers or stock, depending on performance or performance of offspring, when do you undertake this task or do you keep everything that is left??
Blue Chequer Pied Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 The way things have been this season John, the decisions have been made for me Paul.
sapper756 Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 I tend to leave this until the young bird season is complete.
just ask me Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 before they moult they look too bloody nice after it lol
JohnQuinn Posted July 27, 2010 Author Report Posted July 27, 2010 Its a conundrum every year for me, and i've made some right blunders where stock doos are concerned, but no matter how many i'm left with there are still those who have to go. Example two 2yr old hens, both cracking looking birds slept out for weeks as yearlings but are the very type of doos i look for, size, handling and even nature so i kept them, They were no where near the clock this year and have slept out again, though only for one night apiece, but they have to go now as i would rather go and buy another 2 hens than keep them now because i now KNOW they are useless

lanarkshire lad Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Come this time of year i look to thin out my old birds, racers or stock, depending on performance or performance of offspring, when do you undertake this task or do you keep everything that is left??These days its very difficult to condem pigeons for having a night on the tiles as you dont know the reasons for it.The bop could have scattered them hundreds of miles from its loft and the doos went for cover.I bet some of the best doos have had a night on the tiles due to bop.If they keep coming home then i give them more chances these days than say 25year ago things have changed.
Delboy Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Come this time of year i look to thin out my old birds, racers or stock, depending on performance or performance of offspring, when do you undertake this task or do you keep everything that is left?? I very seldom kill a racer, they have to work in this loft , so anything that lasts the pace has earned its perch for the year.Saying that, I wont push a bird that hasnt had a great moult, your wasting your time.I pay particular attention to the moult of a pigeon. I grade every one and although they all look great, very few have an exceptional moult. The ones that do, almost always win the following season.99% guaranteed

Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Come this time of year i look to thin out my old birds, racers or stock, depending on performance or performance of offspring, when do you undertake this task or do you keep everything that is left?? me personaly i havent any thining out to do as i make sure every doo in my loft earns its perch for the winter . if any doo has,nt performed for me this year i wont breed of it next year but will keep a eye out for it next year and try it across the channel to see what its realy made of even the best of doos make mistakes i would rather lose it at france than cull it .its not a good advert for the sport . i am just home from being offshore and one of the boys said if you report a doo the owner just kills it because it made a mistake i told him thats nottrue just public opinion not a very good advert for the doo game the public thinking that all pigeon men are ruthless and cull there doos if they make a mistake .i for one dont JMO
