REDCHEQHEN
Some reckon it can be - some reckon it can't But if you are just starting out you don't need this type of problem, what you need is disease free stock and to make sure your loft is secure from vermin - and you need to disinfect your loft well Have a look at this site http://www.chevita.com/en/pigeons/symptoms/index.php

greenlands
I don't want to seem hard or dishearten you,but just my opinion and this is honest, bin them.I think I had it about four years ago ,they've been rubbish since.I know it's a hard discision mate and the one that looks the best in your loft is probably the carrier.Lindsay

Roland
Well, even if you seperate and keep droppings apart from each other. Even if you take the birds down - all at once - to an good Avian Vet- you have no, or very little chance to say the least of knowing. Personally, post mortem is the route I would advise. Taken to a Very good Avian Vet. Believe you, believe me, it takes some getting shot of. And as Greenlands says, the carriers are good enough to win in the show pens. Handled or through the wires. Maybe a good honest expierenced fancier in the club will take a deckers. After disenfecting his feet. So sorry to hear this. But to be honest, you know you have problems big time.... and there aren't no magic wands on any site.
Guest joshdonlan
if your loosing lots of birds you need some medication, as a last resort i think it may have to be baytril, because even if you do get them tested, it maybe too late. JMO though, but act soon before its too late.

Guest mick bowler
You need to see a vet and get them tested, the vet should prescribe Amoxicillin, min of 10 days and can be taken to 21 days. May not cure the worse ones, but it does work.

Tony C
There's a few things that can cause wing lameness/swollen joints so you must get them tested before you decide your course of actions. If the results were to confirm Paratyphoid/Salmonella I would dispose of all pigeons showing signs of it, their parents and any other pigeons that came from the same source. Those that are left I would train hard and race hard, take note of pigeons that struggle under this regime and dispose along with their parents. You are going to have to be very harsh with your pigeons I'm afraid, if not your enjoyment will be very limited.
Guest IB
Right now you are guessing what is wrong with your pigeons. Only one place can tell you for definite what is causing the illness and that is a laboratory specialising in pathogen culture. Vets have links with these labs, and you might want to try contacting an avian vet (one who specialises in birds) and give him a live sick bird to be sacrificed for lab tests. The one thing that strikes me as odd about it being salmonella is the time of year. I understood that it was a winter disease, peaking January February and March. The other thing is that other diseases have similar symptoms to yours, so it could be something else. If you can afford it, vet + lab tests are the way to go, might be cheaper in the long run.
