as others , sorry to hear this,as some of u know a long time friend of mine has died recently so i know how some of u that knew smokey must feel....paul.

Ian was a friend of mine. He inspired me to write for the RP several years ago, and was someone I personally admired a lot for his magnificent sense of humour, and his skills with a pen in the RP. I met him several times, and arranged for him to do a few panels / shows here in the North East. They went down a storm, but with Smokey and his humour, how could they not. I am unashamed to say that as I write this the tears are rolling down my face. Geordie kindly pm'd me with the news yesterday, but I have only received the message this morning. I am sincerely distraught, my condolences to Tiger Ann and the family. I once got chastized in the press for saying that Smokey was the King of the Scribes, but in my opinion, he was the best, and no-one and nothing that has followed has changed my mind. Rest in peace my old friend, yesterday the pigeon sport lost one of its most colourfull characters. You were the greatest scribe of them all!

was at the snfc marking when the news came through totally lost for words lastnight and cant get it out my head today.my thoughts are with smokies familly today.i was a 14 year old boy when i 1st came into pigeons and met the legendery smokie never short on words and always made people laugh.i speak from the heart when i say pigeon racing has lost the best carracter ive ever met in our sport rip smokey

THIS NEWS HAS BROUGHT A TEAR  TO MY EYE ,,BUT REMEMBER ONE OF THE GREATEST CHARACTERS THE PIGEON FANCY EVER HAD  :'( BUT IM SURE" THE SMOKE" WOULD NOT WANT THAT , HE HAD THE SHARPEST WIT OF ANYONE IVE KNOWN , A GREATLY INTELIGENT PERSON , WHO WROTE CARTOONS FOR PAPERS IN DAYS GONE BY, WAS WELL NOTED FOR HIS TARTAN DEARSTALKER HAT,AND HIS R,P WRITTINGS,, IM SURE HE WOULDNT MIND ,EVEN AT THIS SAD TIME IN A FEW EXAMPLES OF HIS WIT , ON TRAVELING IN THE BOAT OVER TO IRELAND FOR A MOOT ,, THERE WAS A HELICOPTER RESCUE TRAINING , WHICH WE WERE ALL WATCHING, WHILST THE CHAP WAS BEING DROPPED ON TO THE BOAT FROM THE HELICPTER,,IN MID AIR ,,AS COOL AS A CUCUMBER,HE TURNED TO ME AND SAID "HE MUST BE IMPORTANT, BET THEY WOULDNT HAVE DONE THAT TO US IF WE WERE LATE FOR THE BOAT" :'( ;D  AND THE SONGS HE WROTE IN A FEW MINS [A GREAT SINGER AND GUITAR PLAYER] THE ONE ABOUT ,DOCTOR WHITE  "DOCTER IM IN TROUBLE, WELL GOODNESS GRACIOUS ME , MY ,, ,,,,, IS ALL SWOLLEN , AND IT HURTS ME WHEN I P  :'( ;D, AND THE SONG ABOUT NOEL HIGGINSON WHEN HE GOT CAUGHT RUBBING OIL OF ULAY ON HIS FACE,,IN THE HOTEL,,"HAVE  YOU EVER WENT ACROSS THE SEA TO IRELAND,,,,THEN YOULL SEE POOR  HIGGY IN DISMAY,,,FOR HE HAS LOST HIS BABIES BUM COMPLECTION,,,,,CAUSE HE CANT GET NO MORE OIL OF ULAY :'( ;D,, IN BELGIUM WE SHARED THE SAME BED [WE HAD TO, THERE WAS ONLY ONE] SAID AT THE BREAKFAST TABLE ,,AYE,,WELL LADS THATS THE BEST SEX IVE EVER HAD [RED FACED ME]   :'( ;D,,,, HIS WIT WAS SO QUICK , ON TAKING A YB UP TO HIM ,I HAD A 24 BIRD BASKET IN MY VAN [AT THE TIME ]SO I JUST POPPED THE YB IN THE BASKET ,,,,IN THE R.P A FEW WEEKS LATER ,DOCTER WHITE BELIEVES IN PLENTY AIR SPACE PER PIGEON ,,, I BIRD TO A PANNIER  :'( ;D    TO ME HE WAS THE GREATEST , A VERY VERSITILE MAN ,A GEAT SPORTSMAN ,, WHEN I THINK OF HIM NOW, I HONESTLY LAUGH AND CRY AT THE SAME TIME ,,,REST IN PEACE ME OLD MATE ,YOULL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN,,DOC :'(
