Delboy Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Dont know what year it was, I think around 1996/7, the temperature was minus 27 in Scotland. My loft was in the middle of a field and when I changed the frozen water in loft, the time i was ready to leave the water had frozen up again. I had birds sitting on small ybs, no nest felts, no electric and no heaters. Never lost a yb, in fact the down on ybs was fantastic. A brilliant team of ybs were bred, gaining top prizes every time they were raced.

Geraint Parry Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 I think as someone has already stated if the birds are good parents then there will not be a problem. Seen them in the local town with young in the nest at begging of December / end of November on a regular basis

Guest IB Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 One of the coldest i can remember was 1962/63 I was a teenager with a morning & evening newspaper delivery round then, basically started snowing in November and freeze continued till early April? There was a more recent one, 1980's, remember a nightshift week with 5 main line railways in Scotland blocked by snow, and when west coast main line through Lockerbie was re-opened, clearance left sheer walls of ice on either side of the line, that were taller than the trains. Cold now, but no comparison.
