Just let 33 youngsters out for the 4th time   this morning and keeping in mind they  can only flutter from loft to loft  and went up to see them just a minute ago and only 8 left in loft also no old birds in avairy  which is unusual then caught a glimpse of a Hawk diving into to the trees can only presume it is the cock bird desperate for grub after it's mate went to heaven yesterday. This happened last year as well and never seen a feather again of the youngsters that went and here's me thinking the babies can't fly well they certainly can now in total fear . Be very lucky if I get any back now . Never ever been on so much of a figging downer. Old birds are ok they get over it but youngsters are a different ball game as they will just keep flying to they drop, be better wrapping it it instead of putting myself on this downer as just see RED MIST in these times

Went up again to see what was going on and just heard a flap an here was a youngster with an unbelievable gap in it's side will get it posted sometime today so we will be looking for a friend later today . Been angry many times in my life but never ever the way I feel right this second as I type this. Spent many hours on here enjoying the banter and in these cold nights checking doos and it's all gone within minutes .

Still never seen any youngsters so sure they must be gone now. What I did see though was my feather friend return for a  bit of steak after an hour or so of getting it's claws into one earlier and low and behold this is the one that was caught last year through the SHU trapping system  and relocated down Ayrshire way then returned again to be caught AGAIN only for the guy that was monitoring them to come and take it away a second time . Do you think it will come back again after I gave it a fright mmmmmmmmmmm I hope not  ;D ;D

Well certainly be no as far as I'm concerned. Went to Gainsborough last season to retrieve a youngster. Fellow said that he'd had a S. Hawk attack his birds before  :-/. Then said that he'd once caught a hawk that had chased a blackbird into his garage and knocked it's self out hitting the glass. He said I thought I'd dispose of it, but asked his wife for a second opinion   :-/ :o :o She said 'No' etc. and he let it go.  Has returned the favour times eating many of  his youngsters.  :B :B :B

Sorry to hear what has been happening around your lofts Davy.

Near misses / strange goings on here too recent weeks since birds have been going out afterlong winter locked up; first was a few weeks back, had a hen missing for 5 hours after a definite hit, she came back near dusk, minus a few feathers; second earlier in the week, a cock gone for 12 hours, spotted him in the sky a couple of  times during that time, but he just wouldn't come over - dropped near dusk, not a feather out of place, but very nervous; and yesterday a cock appeared to just fall out of the sky (I think, judging by clatter he made on the loft roof), found him in the garden with a wing that appeared almost torn off. Vet job, kept in overnight, nothing broken, ligaments OK, but a deep wound at shoulder that needed surtures.

Kept them in today; strange thing is that there is a loft of pouters couple of hundred yards away (I am looking after them this weekend) owner wants them on open hole, done that, no problems over there?

Feel for you mucker. Still I'd re mate the birds and get another round off them and fly natural till they are weaned. Plenty of time yet. I have now eggs only, none hatched yet.... think another week to 10 days. Had end of June youngster fly 469 miles in the September.

Chin up Davy

the birds of pray are protected by the rspb and the government  so they are as much to blame as the bird of pray and they should pay for any damage these birds do to some one else's they should be made to pay compensation
