Missing out on this years young bird national, however, would like to wish everyone competing, irrespective which national they are in, all the best and good luck ;)

Having missed out the whole season this year, in a way i,m glad its coming to an end. The only reason being is that i will be back on board again next year, theres nothing more frustrating than watching someone elses birds whilst having a team in your loft that you cant fly. But on that note i too wish everyone that is flying the big races this weekend, a huge good luck.

I was interested in the comments about pigeons being 'in the leading batch', no matter where you live? Does that mean there is actually more than one leading batch depending on where in the country the birds are headed?

Would also be interested in your views how the liberation might behave after release? Where will the break(s) start, and what will determine whether they will come East or West of the Pennines, or when will they cross to 'their' side of the country?

UK hit with flood warning

© ITN 2008

A flood warning has been issued to parts of the UK, with two weeks worth of rain due to fall in 24 hours.

South West England and South Wales have been battered since the early hours and the rain is expected to head north east throughout the day, hitting Northern Ireland and the south of Scotland by mid-afternoon.

Meteorologist Paul Mott warned that up to 50mm of rain is expected in the next 24 hours, as much as would be typically seen in a fortnight in September.

Experts said that an unusually-wet August has left the ground saturated and added to the risk of flooding.

Gusts of up to 50mph will make it a "thoroughly miserable" day, and commuters have been advised to leave extra time for their journeys because of the weather.

"For most areas it will be a wet and miserable day, and we would advise people to take care on the roads and allow extra time for their journeys", Mr Mott said.

"There will be some localised flooding in Wales and the North East in areas that are prone to it, but we're not expecting widespread flooding."

"It's going to remain unstable over the weekend. There will be rain, sometimes heavy rain, through the UK with northern England bearing the brunt of it."

People in Gloucestershire are bracing themselves for another night of heavy rain after storms swept into the region, causing flash floods.

Downpours overnight led to road closures in the county and firefighters have had to pump out floodwater from homes.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the region until this evening and say around 2in of rain is expected.

Severe weather warnings are also in force for Wales, the North West, North East, South West and South East of England as well as London.

Gloucestershire County Council has put services on high alert after learning from the lessons of the major floods which wreaked havoc throughout the county in July last year.

i reckon they stay together especially young birds

the route they take depends on the wind  west wind i guess the solway bird's would break at berwick or when the first birds drop into the eye valley east wind the eye valley birds may break at carlisle or Gretna area

guess i will never know
