hepste Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 hi all, just wondering whats the oldest pigeon still racing in your lofts and what have they done as us up in cumbria cant seem to be able to keep hold of many older than 2 -3 years thus being hard to build a decent team up, lets have your thoughts please. I know the query was regarding pigeons racing, but I thought I'd let you know about a 14 year old Jan Aarden I bought 2 years ago direct from Louella. He has spent the first 12 years of his life in an aviary, never flown out. Within weeks of getting him, I let him out. He spent a night away, but ever since has had his freedom every few weeks. He still does a couple of laps with the other birds around the loft, and his agility and flying skills are remarkable. He also fills every egg. Respect to that pigeon!
hotrod Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 i had a 2000 cock this year bred by mel coldingham raced well enough won a few minor races flew france 3/4 times without getting clocked ,broke his wing as a 5yr old ,8 weeks later won from 90 miles and 3rd fed ,but never bred anything worth tuppence ,so put him down this year to use his hen for another cock ,he raced in 2008 , a good friend of mine ( joe oribine of port glasgow ) won from sartilly 1st club 1st fed with a nine yr old cock 514 miles

cemetary Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 The oldest bird i had in the loft was an 91 pigeon, he was an old Jannsen, he bred a yb to go to the millenium race when it first started up, a syndicate went for it, and he bred a bird to collect a couple of hot spots, the wifes favourite, he had to be put to sleep last year, the wife still talks aboot him yet.
