paul10121968 Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 is anyone else having problems with drinkers freezing inside their loft.i,m changing water 4 times a day and finding the drinkers iced over each time.but the birds seem to be loving this crisp clear weather and exercised for nearly an hour today.its how winter should be though i think.
chickadee Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 Yes we're having problems with the drinkers also, even the cider vinegar in the water doesn't do much good just now. :-/

gulkie Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 if u watch your birds ull find that alot dont even go near the drinker after being fed.[well mine dont].
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 Thats true.. as long as they get a good drink at feeding time.. they'll be fine till the next day.. Past two days is the worst the drinkers have been tho.. totally solid..!!
Tony C Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 Fed at 2:30 drinkers in at 3:00 job done.
jacksafc Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 Some of us mere mortals have to work as well as see to the birds, go to the lofts lunch time , feed, give 5 minutes for a drink and now throw the water out, totally pixxed off lol.
just ask me Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 with this weather birds dont drink too much as once they have a drink after each feed they will be ok
Guest kevin b Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 If your birds are feeding then you must have fresh water for them , any birds waiting to go down will drink after their feed but birds on young ones must have drinking water 3 or 4 times a day if you want the babies to grow right. Most fanciers now when breeding early young birds will light up the loft early and keep the light on late so the young will be fed morning noon and night, The old birds cant feed the young without water. I know this is basic to many fanciers but to the new once a day in this weather is not going to do, fill the pots with food and more impotanly make sure they have water.
Taylorsloft Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 just in from the the loft not so cold today it drop to -7.7 last night its -2.5 right now but seems warmer drinker ok there is some ice in them but birds can still get a drink
greenlands Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 if u watch your birds ull find that alot dont even go near the drinker after being fed.[well mine dont]. Agree there mate. Noticed that over the last few weeks, they drink very little,I always put a litre of water in each drinker,I now put half a litre in and still throw some out when I remove the drinkers in the evening.16 pigeons in each section. I like the idea of a 12 volt bulb,if the lofts hadn't been at the back door I would have went down that road, maybe an idea for you fanciers going to Blackpool,a 12v transformer or battery, hole cut in top of the drinker cover ,car light fitting secured and a not too high wattage bulb used ????????? can only try. DOVEScot Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 Try some glycerine in the water its supposed to stop it freezing What proportions do you use Rose?
