I have judged the Lothian show  as well as every big show in Scotland many times and I wont put up a dipped bird if it is in a racing class. The 300 mile class at Lothian today was a super class, easy to find ticket winners and spoilt for choice but when you judge a likeliest class it is a different story.

Derek your spot on mate. I believe in this and I also believe that flown birds should be flown. I actually had a flown young grizzle in the likelist class today in stead of flown class as you were judge. Knew you'd like him... He got 3rd so cheers. This cock won Dunoon flown young cocks back in November so he has had a good year.

Maybe it means when i look in my loft at the start of the season Alec i think all my old birds can win from over 300 mls but in my head mate i know there can only be 1 winner and it may not be in my loft ;) :-/ :-/ :-/ 8) 8) 8)

Yeah well thats the question. Likely to win? Likely to fly certain distance. Think its all down to judge and what he likes. If its a national winning man and he comes across a birds that handles/looks like his national winner then you'll prob find bird win the class. All on judge

so when judging a big show this could be the thinking of "likeliest"  would these lovely big dipped birds be worth waiting on in a tough 300 plus mls race?? :)

If they were in my loft and it's a big if ( and this is only from a personal point of veiw as i dont show my doos )  i dont think they would be in my loft in the 1st place mate but i would'nt knock anyone for showing them in a likely class but i certainly would'nt pick them if i was the judge ;)

Well judge decides so bottom line to be honest. Every man has opinion and most are different. And end of day show is for good looking bird so if its best looker in a TW class it wins. It is like saying a pigeon that wins so many races should not be allowed to compete in the race as it is likely to win.... Think judge does what he does and if he likes it fair play but if not no tickets

racing classes surely for racing pigeons, yes best looking best handling, but for likliest (racing class) the judge must pick the bird most suited for the job he wants it to do. :) :)

Well said Brian, every bird should be judged on it's own merit in the class it's entered into. It's up to the exhibitors to enter them honestly and accept that everyone has a different opinion.

Totally agree, alot of good racing men getting caught out with dipped birds, but in the likeliest classes now  are 90% dipped pigeons and the racers are sometimes crap.Leaves no choice to give some dipped birds a minor ticket, but should not be a winning card.

i agree delboy  but its likeliest 2 race and they would never race. not one of the judge.s would take them home 2 pair 2 there good racers its just they wont go against the show men 2 hard 4 them.  but again racing men its easy pickings

Dont think it means half an half. Means the Grandfather was maybe a show racer with a racer grand Mother. Just means show racer in the bloodlines. And thats where I dont know as I have bought most birds in but I do not have any show racer pigeons so I certainly dont dip/cross them. But hear many people at shows accusing me I do. Welcome to my loft any time!! Can even come in race season and watch me time these birds in from the races. I do not claim to have flown any my stock or in fact any old birds but I do race my young birds and as from this season I will be racing my yearlings. Started with 20 young birds last season and finished with 9. Considering the races Midlothian fed had I feel I done well. People lost a lot more!!
