Roland Posted September 21, 2019 Report Posted September 21, 2019 Same, yet again. Would have been good a great day for a y/b race today. Would all be on perches now back home. Tonight not home would have good weather rest of week. If not high it may be A. B.OI.P. or simply not good enough. Would save one from mating breeding culls next season eh!
REDCHEQHEN Posted September 21, 2019 Report Posted September 21, 2019 Some people had a young bird race today - I was one of them! It was the last race of the season and the first race that the b#ggers wouldn't trap!
THE FIFER Posted September 21, 2019 Report Posted September 21, 2019 Some people had a young bird race today - I was one of them! It was the last race of the season and the first race that the b#ggers wouldn't trap! maybe enjoying the sunshine
Roland Posted September 22, 2019 Author Report Posted September 22, 2019 Was going to say the same Fifer lol.
REDCHEQHEN Posted September 22, 2019 Report Posted September 22, 2019 I think maybe it was because they were all away last week - at 245 miles and this week it was a quick 54 minutes. Lost 2 minutes but was still (possibly) 9th fed with one club yet to submit results
philg50 Posted September 22, 2019 Report Posted September 22, 2019 Also hadnt been dying for a drink ,like on the humid heat we were getting earlier in season.
Roland Posted September 26, 2019 Author Report Posted September 26, 2019 (edited) Another glorious day today. Blue sky with gentle breeze. Great for those, if so wishing, - which I stopped doing personally, - to set a few later bred for a little experience eh? I remember reading, in Scotland's Own, Newcome saying. 'Those that didn't shine racing, which was nigh all and I was nigh always bottom of the ladder, went training throughout the winter months come snow or shine or whatever. Come breeding season I only had birds that had proved that they wanted to be here'. He became a house hold name. Yes, today with the B.O.P. problem, it is different no doubt. But gives food for thought eh! Edited September 26, 2019 by Roland

Dooheed 5 Posted September 26, 2019 Report Posted September 26, 2019 Nothing to think about it would spell the end for most working lads
robbiedoo. Posted September 26, 2019 Report Posted September 26, 2019 Nothing to think about it would spell the end for most working lads As we are both know there are some that are very selfish in this game.
REDCHEQHEN Posted September 27, 2019 Report Posted September 27, 2019 It's basketing today for the final young bird race of the season for most of the Up North Combine, our federation chose a midweek race earlier in the season instead but was only one of two Federations who took that option (a previously cancelled early race)
Roland Posted September 27, 2019 Author Report Posted September 27, 2019 (edited) Nothing to think about it would spell the end for most working lads Don't know what you mean regards 'Winter Racing'! If it's to say you won't be there in the time can't see how that would be any different in the summer time? As for being there to time in, that was and is been overcome forever. You know, we heard/had these comments and arguments for that matter, for about 50 years as I know off. Before the E.T. was allowed, and then some after. 'Can't release Mondays (some hated Sunday for overtime pay or going to church etc.) As I will be at work'! Because I won't be there to time them in etc. - Won't race the distance races as I won't be there to time in. etc. In fact it was far worse in the 30's to the 50's as most worked Saturday Morning at least … But still raced! Funnily enough it was very few in deed that couldn't get a hand to time in. Most did but still moaned because .. So I put it to you that that scenario won't and doesn't wash. Sorry. Insight baffled. Still haven't the foggiest of what you mean or are on about … especially after your last post. Let alone the waffling in regards of 'Winter racing' What winter racing? As for letting them out, by far most keep their birds in over the winter months... through the moult and then together for breeding.... whatever month that may be. Edited September 27, 2019 by Roland
