  1. Have merged birds to one topic.
  2. Found the list of Sport England recognised sports.
  3. Just a quick reminder to get your entries in for the Youngbird Racer class, the first of the 2007 Pigeonbasics online shows. This year there is a section for cocks and a section for hens. Therefore you can enter two photographs. Entries for this class must be received by midnight 1st December (this Saturday) for judging to start on Sunday. Please forward by email only your photograph(s) to [mail]forum@pigeonbasics.com[/mail] including your forum username and which photo is a cock and which is a hen. Further details are here: http://www.pigeonbasics.com/forum/blah/m-1195694082/

  5. Pigeon racing has never been recognised as a sport. I have seen responses from Sport England and other bodies that the reason is that pigeon racing involves little human physical exertion, and that is their stumbling block. The news story is in response to in change in policy to start charging business rates on sports clubs* and village halls. *sports clubs however can apply for a dispensation. From the BBC in 2005: 'Give pigeon racing sport status' http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/4089900.stm 'Minister's advice on pigeon call' http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/4114816.stm

  10. Westy won it for 2006.
  11. Calling all novice fanciers, The Mickie B Shield is presented to a novice fancier who has attained outstanding achievement in the sport in 2007, it is presented in memory of the late forum member MickieB. The award isn't about winning races or person with the most prize cards. We want to hear your stories, what you've had to overcome to race your pigeons, interesting and quirky tales. Some things to include in your entry would be: How old you are, How long you have raced pigeons/kept pigeons, How many do you keep, Do you race on your own, or is someone in the family race too, Are you part of a partnership, What positions have you won this year, and what birdage was there in these races (as much detail about setting your birds up and getting them to perform in that race please - remember it doesn't have to be a 1st place, it doesn't have to be 10th, if you sent 10 and got them all home within 5 mins but were just off the result sheet; that's a pretty remarkable performance; let us know!), What size is your loft, Do you drive (how do you go about training your pigeons if not)... I'm sure your getting the idea now! To enter, please write your piece (above), don't worry about the style of writing or your spelling, its not a spelling competition! Please include your full name, and also the name of your club and federation. Winners will receive; the trophy (for one year) and replica. We may even sort out some goodies for you too . And all entrants will receive a certificate. There is also a trophy for the runner up. Dont forget, include the small quirky little stories of whats happened over the season, things maybe you wouldnt normally say. Entries to [mail]webmaster@pigeonbasics.com[/mail] - marked 'MickieB Trophy'. Good luck! Richard P.S. For novice fanciers we mean anyone who has raced pigeons for less than 4 years.
  12. Entries for the first class will be accepted until 1st December. Judging to start 2nd (posted then).
  13. 112 is the international universal emergency services number. Within the UK if you call the number it will automatically divert to 999. Similarly it would divert to 911 in the USA, and 000 in Australia. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1-1-2
  14. Try going into the Control Panel and checking the display settings, I think it's called monitors and displays.
  15. Indeed I'd missed the 'i' in basics. Corrected now :B
  16. Other shows have classes for racing pigeons, show racers and then there are the fancy classes (usually seperate shows). Historically we have not had the number of entries of show racers or fancy breeds, that is why they are categorised as they are.
  17. If a pigeon has flown a pigeon race it is then a racer. Show racers for the purposes of our show will be in the Fancy section/class.
  18. Golden Oldies class is aimed at stock birds or old favourites. All breeds other than racing racing pigeons to go in the fancy section/classes.
  19. Congratulations
  20. No. Wikipedia is where I was quoting what a googlebot was. Many of our topics, links and posts will go into the Google (and other search engines) index.
  21. Best described from Googlebot entry to Wikipedia. 'Yahoo! Bot', 'AdSence' and others are similar visitors.
