I was sick to my stomach when I was told the news of Jimmy's death. Jimmy was a complete one off. I will miss his chat at sales and functions and on the phone. He was quick to pick up the phone to encourage you if you had been fortunate enough to get "a good one from the national" and during our chat would invariably tell "me" how a certain pigeon of his had been prepared before it "scored" from the distance and give freely of his ideas and methods. This is all to sudden and shocking for "me" especially when I hear he was in such great "form" just last weekend. Jimmy was a great pigeon man, a great pigeon official and a great pigeon orator, but more than anything he was quite simply a great man. He is a great loss to not only the Scottish fancy but to the whole of "Pigeondom" as he liked to call it. I will miss him.

The birds will be happier and come into great condition. The trick is too make sure the straw causes no health problems.

We can't be sure of that Bruno lad membership will continue to fall year on year and lets be honest, as Andy said earlier his fed flys for more money so who cares? Does anyone really think these increases will be reversed in 2009? Future ain't as bright as some of us may like to hope I am afraid

Make no mistake whatsoever, if you can keep your loft warm and dry 24/7/ a loft with straw deep litter will beat a loft scraped out every day every time . The birds love it nothing scientific about it.

The biggest problem most distance pigeons have is their owners. Sad but oh so very true. Be patient with them and let THEM tell you when they want to fly the distance its as simple as that.

No what you mean, but the SNFC has a slightly different problem from "every fed" . The guys that are no longer allowed to fly were the same guys who sent a few birds to the distance races AND these are the races which are struggling big time hence the drive for inland " nationals " to make up the lost cash and trying to get every fed and their granny to go with them to make up cash short falls. One or two "mixers" have been allowed to slip back recently, but the guys with a bit of honour and pride will be excluded and sadly these are the same guys that have put up heart stopping performances from the distance with their birds in the last few years.

Think you have missed the whole point here the main reason for ETS is to continue to be able to make money as the sport dwindles down and dies. How long do you think it will be before you have to buy your Ets ring from your "union" do you think?

No Bart lad I am not saying that (see my earlier post) but if people are reasonable decent people and are willing to abide by the rules of the club which are "legal" then you ARE NOT ALLOWED to refuse membership if you want a grant from the lottery and that seems fair to "me". Why should someone be refused because they are member of a particular organisation for instance?

You are right Bart most clubs constitutions do have something like that in their rules, but unfortunately the grants people say it must be "open to all". Will only take one complaint to bring the whole thing crashing down if we are not careful.
