  1. I believe the area is going to be twice as big this year.
  2. I only feed once per day but I do give them a small amount of seed in the morning, hasn't done them any harm they still win.
  3. You should let the hen sit dummy eggs for a couple of days then odd her off for a few days and then repair her.
  4. One of the older fanciers round here who unfortunately died 2 weeks ago used to have a bag of nails in his loft and when a certain cock was bang on it would start building with these nails.

    GEMTHEPAX

We used it in the water and it did just as good a job as putting it on the corn but you ended up wasting a lot, not decided how we will use it this year.

    droppers

we do not use one for old birds, we have used them for youngsters but they have usually been some later bred youngsters which have been kept hungry.
  9. Peterpau, I would most definately say yes, even more so than land to get a pigeon to keep coming for 13 hours plus it must be healthy and the motivation for it to keep going also has to be there otherwise it would go down.
  10. Richard, we will donate a pair of youngsters, Van Reets, Marcelis or Lemputteens, buyers to choose, we were highest prizewinners in club, 8 x 1st, 7 x 2nd, 5 x 3rd also 1 x 1st Fed, 2 x 2nd Fed, 1 x 3rd Fed also winners of bird of the year for the third year on the trot with 3 different birds. Paul ( P.Derricott & Son )
  11. Only paired up on Jan 30th, we will have to wait and see with the bird flu but if all is okay we will try to give our birds about 8 tosses before 1st race, 1 x 8mls, 2 x 16mls and the rest at 25 mls and then after the first race on widowhood, no training just let them out twice a day.

    Why is it?

T-T, Last year at Blackpool I bought a pair of Brownlee, Nee son & Ward birds, bred two youngsters off them and 1 scored twice and the other was there all the time after I threw him in at 150 miles, anyway I have bought some special rings this year and 2 were to be off this pair, went in today 1 broke, yes your right always happens.
  13. Back garden for me
  14. Saturday is pigeon day, if I did not send I would have to go and watch some come or I would get withdrawal symptoms.

teh question fanciers should be asking is whats in a strain, after all its just a name they are not all good anes whatever the strain, however in this country we seem to have a fascination for names, oh and I include myself in that, it should be winner to winner whatever the strain but we don't, I do put winner to winner but usually of the same strain.
  17. One of my fancier friends purchased one of these electronic cat deterrents, he says it worked for about 12 months and then they took no notice of it.

    always learning

I used to use peanuts but now don't as there is so much that can be wrong with them, also I once did a write up on a top classic and specialist winning loft who also said the same thing, they had not fed them for quite a number of years and had not noticed any difference in their performances, and they were 2nd, 3rd & 4th National open in 2006.
  19. Frank, I don't think you would refuse either.

    what do you think

When top flyers are asked for tips to new starters, they usually answer go to the top man in your area and try to buy some latebreds, now that to me says there is something in the statement by lplates. I also know that some strains of birds do not seem to perform in certain areas, but when they cross them they do. Paul
  21. Try Carls approach first but if it don't work, put then in a black container, THE BIN.

    Changing hens????

Bruno, If she has bred you good pigeons before I would leave her alone, if you send her and she has not fully recovered you may regret it. Paul

    Yearlings???

Just move them over when I pair up, I then let each pair out individually for a few days then I let a row at a time out then 2 rows and then all of them and just shut the doors and walk away, they will sort themselves out.

    longest race

As far as the longest race is that we fly, if yearlings are treated right they will win from the longer distances but you cannot send them every week and expect them to keep coming, one fancier I know had a yearling that kept coming week after week even winning at 500 mls tried to do the same with it year after came the first couple of races and then it came late the next two and he sent it back its still coming.
