  1. In the Merseyside area these birds are starting to win well and two friends have won between them in the region of £15,000 in specialist young bird racing.Has anybody had much success with these as old birds?
  2. Morning all, good to have the light mornings back for a while, all the birds were cleaned out and given a light feed by 8 o'clock.
  3. Cloudy with showers here
  4. When I started the thread on Tommy Blair,it was only for some updated info on him and not my intention to compare his results against other top pigeonmen in his fed.I know very little of the past history of the Fed other than it is a very competitive one.The video I have dates from 2002 when he topped the Fed 4 times which had 270 members sending up to 3,500 birds he was also 10th open from Reims 583mls,great flying by any standard.atb.
  5. Same here with some light rain on and off.
  6. Back in 1962 when walking through the local woods I spotted a bird lying in a little hollow it didn't make a move until I was right up to it then it tried to fly but couldn't.On taking it home my dad said it's a pigeon get shut.Anyway it died that night but that was me hooked, our coal shed wasn't being used as we had been made a smokeless zone,so that was my first loft after I'd white washed it.My dad didn't twig-on for a couple of weeks that I had birds in there because I didn't open the door until he'd gone to work and closed it before he got home,I was on the darkness but didn't know it. Anyway 50 years on I'm still hooked.
  7. Cold and wet here with a west wind. :emoticon-0156-rain:
  8. I have the same sort of set-up,nest boxes closed off but also a set of perches in the loft. The nest boxes come in handy if hens start pairing. To keep it really simple the hens just flyout/trap in to that section and not roundabout. They only see their own nest box before/after a race, the idea being this should make them keener. If I send them midweek I let them through into their own box when the cocks are out at exercise this motivates them without disturbing the cocks. When the hens return from the midweek race they trap to their own section.Hope this maybe of some help.
  9. Clear and crisp morning here with a ground frost and a cold nw wind.
  10. Worth waiting for, well done.Going to have a go myself if my lad can remember to bring me his camera.
  11. Cold but clear sky here with a light ne wind, looks like it could be a nice day.
  12. Cheers Rooster, looking forward to it.
  13. Does anybody know if there's any new write ups or dvd's about him? I have his old video but it is poor quality picture wise.Cheers.
  14. Same here but cloudy.
  15. One of the clubs that I'm a member of were at the same HQ for 25 years. In that time hundreds of young lads used the pub and we marked the birds infront of them, some showed a bit of interest but not one of them ever took up pigeons. We also had ex-fanciers use the pub and none of them restarted, any new members were from existing clubs or had moved into the area.Being a minority sport I think we need to target all age groups and hopefully some will take up this great sport.
  16. Yes, well done geordie.
  17. Cloudy again here but a lot fresher in the ne wind.

  20. Just looking at the pigeons in the town centre the other day and they,ve had a good moult on leftovers from KFC,McDonalds,Pizza Hut and protein from Greggs steak bakes. They supplement their diet by clearing the pavement of pieces of carrots on a sunday morning.
  21. Very dull here with a light ne wind.
  22. Foggy here this morning.
  23. I bought one of the last daughters off a top stock hen before she stopped laying,it bred two winners in the first nest and has bred winners with 3 different cocks to date.I will be pairing her to a younger cock this coming season to keep her on her toes, she also flys out daily which helps.
  24. Too late Andy, they got the 7-30 train.
  25. After some light drizzle the sun has broken through. What's the weather like in Edinburgh? my wife and daughter are there today.
