could you cross a racer with a wood pigeon? or are they to far removed?
-
Was that the letter titled .. One rule for one .. If so i am waiting for the reply myself if all is as it reads then M.& D. Evans really are sour egg's when it comes to getting there own way. Then again so are 99.9% of all pigeon men that ive met

so if i take 10 day old eggs and swap them with a pair that have two day old egg's ,will the young still get milk of the foster parents? also not sure myself but ive heard the incubation takes 21 days before hatching but heard people say theve had them hatch on 18 days will these babys still get the milk?If they do then it seems highly likely that the egg's hatching is part of the cycle and likely that it can be turned on an off as needed .Could be natures way of dealing with the parents getting blown about when searching for food and not making it back to the nest in time(in the wild) .still all guesswork on my behalf

sorry to go off topic Thumper. Totally agree with Swilcox

All i can say is i had money put aside for a couple of one loft race's this year and have decided not to enter any. What put me off was europa winner last year, a bird just happened not to be activated so a person who is involved with the race no matter how small suddenly decides to activate it and wins...Call me paranoid and now all this bother with scmdpr i think i will stick to racing against my club.

i would say a help ,yes it has been manufactured by its own body but its allready made so the pigeon could call on these resources if neded but saying that if your going to send a bird that far you must have it prepared and in good form so it could just be excess baggage.

Just catch it and take the collar of then turn it in as an abandoned cat. either that or go toss it the other side of a river .

How long b4 I can let them out?
Ronnie replied to Iqbal's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
you may want to make sure you feed the same time everyday that way you can let them out before feeding time and they should come in for the feed . -
Agree with bruno give a bit more time.Ive just paired 9 pairs of yearlings and all egg's were filled ok.My cocks had there box's for about two weeks before i gave them there hens and where only locked in there box's for about a week when paired.(that was locked in for a few hours at a time till they got used to the right box).

i bought some belgium young birds the week before christmas i had them three days when one got out(flew over my head). It came back the next day at feeding time was a bugger to get it in the shed but it went in eventually. It was sat on the sputniks looking out of the shed for those three days prior to getting out.

well where i live they used to say that you could never win a club race because of position and the wind factor.well a loft about 100yards from me is winning regular club and fed .(south west cheshire fed) also they are regular club average winners from another club and fed winners(not sure on what fed that is).I asked them how they did it and the reply was got better birds and trained on a breaking point.Last year they took first 5 fed cards with young birds in one race and they could have clocked the first twelve i know that as fact as i was sat in their back garden watching them when a batch dropped and they couldnt clock them quick enough .Oh yeah they also won the middlewich two bird open and took the two bird average for that race with a mother and daughter. My point being that while position does play a small factor that can still be overcome with good birds motivation and break point training may actually help.

Great jobs guys getting them on such good condition. Was only one winner for me though.I'm not taking anything of either pigeon mind they are both in great condition

i could put another bowl in the box .But what do i do when i have enough youngsters? do i just take the eggs away? Thanks guys
-
How long do i leave my youngsters in the nest for? They are between 14-20 days old and the parents have started laying on the floor should i take youngsters out of box and put them on a bed of straw on the floor?Only one pair of parents have laid on the floor upto now but others are making nest and treading.
-
give them Gem matrix a couple of times a week

Ray try putting wire under the bottom of the nest box's so when the birds fly about most of the dust will get blown out.I no this is probably a dip in the ocean but it all help's.Also try flying to an aviary instead of a loft(if i had room this is what i would do),You could even use that blue nylon ground sheet around the sides for racing widowood. Also a ioniser will make the dust particles stick to gether and drop to the floor. These are all just idea's mate just trying to help.

it would be nice to get a load of these short vids and make a promo dvd.Maybe send it to local schools and see if they could show it to the kids in assembly.

ive voted no but just realised ive bred two pure whites this year i will post if there any good.
-
I'm just gonna stick with what ive got for the next few years see if i can bring out the best in them.Boschneid flyers crossed into my staf van reets and a couple of braspennings to finish the mix .

In this day and age you culd also have an EBAY sale.Get people to donate what ever pigeon stuff they dont want old water drinkers and the like clean them up and get someone to put them on ebay all profit to the club.

What a lot people dont realise is that darkness youngsters mature earlier as well so they act and think like yearlings .so you can race them on widowwood with no problems.Natural birds will keep up with darkness birds in the early race's but not very often will they beat the darkness youngster in the early or later race's.I know this will get some people disagreeing with me .Also even rubbish birds will fly well on the darkness thats why people say it turns them stupid because an average young bird as a youngster will still be average as a yearling but when its on darknesss as a younster it will fly well then as a yearling turn back into an average youngster.Lol i hope that sounds right ,its confused myself.

i was thinking along these lines beuty after reading a post where you said the cock defines the hen youngsters colour and the hen the cocks. That mealy cock and check hen i paired have produced one youngster which is a dark mealy so am i right in assuming it will be a hen?.
