  4. having just joined the nfc .I have just paired my two best yearling's aiming for the fist national race from Forges on the 19th of may(My birthday). The reason is i am aiming to have them on 10 day youngsters for the race .I intend to race the cock only . he will get the next three club race's prior to Fourges then a week off then the national. The week after i am going to send the hen in the middlewich two bird open from the same place i may resend the cock depending on the condition he is in.They will then be laid of from racing till next year.I am going to get plenty of training inbetween now and then out to 40 mile plus club race's i am aiming for one day on on day off in the training. I am not going to use any special feed till the week before when i intend to use a Carb loading method. Now this is the furthest race i or my birds have ever raced so i will let you know how it go's.the birds are a Staf van reet cock and a braspenning hen.Any tips or advice would be wellcome Both birds did the full youngbird programme apart from the last race

    TODAY'S WEATHER

very bright and warm here.Weather is gonna be a scorcher for tomorrow i pity those birds that are racing in it.
  6. Had my young un's out today and seen a hawk hovering above when the birds where all bathing.I ran in the house and got a dvd and let the sun reflect of it.Old mr hawk didnt stay around to long.
  7. Ive the same problem surrounded by house's so i'm knackered.I'm on open hole this year and noticed they tend to be around the garden more than the rooftops.I cant beleive how fit they are on open hole
  8. Hi Roland i would be gratefull if you could send me a copy please. Can u pm it or do you need my email?
  9. I wouldnt know a sprint bird from a distance bird if you paid me .But i would assume a sprint bird would be like a sprint runner lots of heavy powerfull muscle where a distance bird would be more wiry and slimline. But then again when we say sprint what sort of distance are we talking about because 50 mile is still a long way to me.If its just about a bird going flat out at full speed for as long as possible surely the diet has a lot to do with it along with the training?Like i said i would know the difference if you paid me.On a side note i have some direct bert brasspenning's i purchased earlier in the year and also some Boshneid flyers they are both jansen based or so i am led to believe but the braspenning's are a lot more solid if thats the right word they also seem to hug the floor and have shoulders like the bulldog of tom and jerry.Where as the boshneid seem more elegant and regal.Well time will tell.My van reets are the best looking birds in the loft though .
  10. Really good photo mate .Any details on the box you made .My missus would love to have a go at that she is in to photography. You should get it printed and take to your club i bet a few members would pay for a couple of pic's.
  11. Got a friend with what looks like a red and yellow grizzle.Real eye catcher he reckons most of the yellow will molt out after its weaned
  12. Ive just made a 16x7 just need to put the front on and internal fittings. Now ive got to be the worst Diy'er in the world ive even sawn through my finger in the past ive had that many black finger nails from the hammer amongst other injurys diy related so the task was really daunting for me.Now i think ive got it sussed. What i did is use Boards then tounge and groove cladding on the outside to save the black fingers i used a cordless drill and screw's.Even the missus says it looks allright. So yeah if ya put a bit of thought and effort in mate it will work. Also draw the shed before you make it and dont forget VENTILATION.Louvres at the bottom front and a vent at the top back.Just my idea's mate i'm still new at the sport so it may be you ask for a few more suggestions before start and get as many idea's as possible
  13. Wiley you could have a good point there .I heard one of the convoyers say the worst thing about the job is scaring youngsters out of the crates.Could it be the youngsters that feel safe in the crate dont want to get out of it?I think another good point is the searching for water .More like teaching a pigeon to survive no matter what rather than just in a basket.
  14. Best thing i would suggest is take 6-8 youngsters and give it a try i know its a very small team but at least you can bond with the birds and have a better feel for it.If you find its not to your liking still you havnt over burdened yourself.Downside to that suggestion is you will become more sentimental to the birds and if you get a casualty it could be devastating.Just remember your racing for yourself and your birds noone else.I think you have allready made ya mind up though .

  16. Its a hard one to call. With so many people racing darkness youngsters now its near on impossible to compete with them on natural. Would the same people who are against it welcome the Light system? As for racing in later years i think its been shown that they suffer no ill effects in performance's with lots of flyers best birds being darkness youngsters in the past. Then again could them best birds be even better if they was left to mature naturally.
  17. Hi could someone tell me if i am aloud to race WHU pigeons i bought them last year as young birds and i transferred them with the WHU but i live in England do i have to registar them with the RPRA or can i just race them. The reason i ask is when i recently moved house and informed the rpra i got a list of all the birds i changed address with but the Whu birds where not on it.
  18. Put mine on the loft for a few hours before they can fly properly. Then let them come out through the sputnicks and go in when they like.Only problem i have is a couple of young lads a few doors away each have birds and when they see mine go out they throw as many as possible out to try and get my squeakers in.Lost two to them allready but they cut the rings of and deny there mine.Still what go's around comes around and they have both joined our club this year so will be racing there own squeakers next year.
  19. Ignore my last post, after looking at my birds (none are line bred or inbred) and i have both long number 10's and shorter number 10's.
  20. Hold the bird and pull its beak gently so its neck extends it struggles and pulls back its a cock if it lets you and dont riggle its a hen. Dunno how accurate this is but it works for me.Test it on a few birds that you are sure about the Sex and see.
  21. Pssst Has he gone yet? Lets start talking about him why he aint here.
  22. Yep got em all back lost a couple at 30 miles though
  23. Thats a really good point Roland an angle that i have never looked at.The only problem from my point as a novice is determining the good parasites from the bad and treating for each.I would assume that treating for Bad parasites would in turn kill the good.Hmmm now theres a market waiting to be exploited a bottle of good Parasites.
  24. Personally think its to close to home to train under 5 miles they must fly about 20 miles round the loft.
