  1. You could prolly incorporate a microchip in the ring then track it with sat nav .Imagine sitting in the pub watching the progress of the bird then running home to clock em in.Again it would be down to cost and you would need a big time Tv backer. If that happened you would see this sport take off in a big big way. Imagine it would involve leagues area championships and loads more. so much imagination so little money

    The Winner

Got a free copy at doncaster last year and must say it was a great mag.
  3. Could it be that all you guy's who dont believe in eyesign and are succesfull at pairing are pairing good eyesign birds together by accident? It could be you have a loft full of good eyesign birds . My personal belief is eyesign is a good pointer and is a tool to be used along with others. But i'm a beginner and time will tell.
  4. Anyone know where i can get hold of any of his books in the Uk please.
  5. How do i post pics .It says my file size is to large.
  6. i'm not sure what the parents where as i bought them as young birds from doncaster last year.I will get a pic up later
  7. my head hurts. So ive got a mealy that looks like it has grizzle in him(Looks just like what jimmy said a dirty mealy) , ive paired him with a dark check hen so should i get grizzles of that pairing .(Thats what i was hoping for). The mealy's nest mate is also a cock and looks like the twin i can only tell them apart by looking at the ring number. He is a staf van reet from the red daniel lines so there is a lot of reds in his pedigree dunno if that's relevant.
  8. Dunno if its any good as i havnt used it yet.But couldnt you just Google earth a liberation site to see the weather?I dunno how often the pictures are refreshed but its supposed to be able to zoom right in.
  9. Exscuse my ignorance but do convoyers get paid a wage?if so is it a good one? Not saying anyone is in it for the money just curious.

    Stock birds

Mine will all get vacinated my stock shed is joined to my other sheds. My racers will see and be in contact with other birds so in theory so will my stockers.
  11. i hope so i'm really looking forward to trying my first channel race.Ive even picked out a lovely check hen for the job. With so few birds i can only really attempt it one time this year.
  12. Tell ya what i could even video the liberation for ya's if i have the time i may just do that anyway even if no one on the board is flying from there .Would pass a few hours while waiting for me own birds.
  13. Dont some of you guys race from nantwich.its about 5 mile from me i could go get ya pics of that lib site on some race days if ya liked.(Providing i'm not at work)
  14. Pecked just keep locking them up and letting them out till they get used to it.I had the same problem to start with with .one pair i locked the hen in the box and let the cock drive at her through the bars till they got the hang of it.All in all it was about a week till all the pairs where settled.this is just my experiance but please bear in mind this is my first attempt at breeding so i may be wrong.
  15. A laptop and a webcam would be good as you could actually watch the liberation. But then its all down to cost and techy know how.Would be great to have siting spots across the route home as well with cams set up Imagine that.Probably to far in the future still for the pigeon sport.A pity as the technology is there allready .maybe if we could get Sky sports to start sponsoring pigeon racing lol imagine a helicopter with a chase cam on .
  16. Maybe the old boy's used to use something that contained it and thats why they never lost as many young birds?.Also how about feeding it prior to pairing to see if the young birds homed any better. To be sure you would need a lot of time and money to research it properly i think. Going back to the older flyers i overheard one saying they used to put an old nail in the water till it went rusty ,whats that all about?
  17. Oh by the way my uncle won the club average's this year for old birds the majority of his winners were yearlings that were on darkness as young birds.
  18. I heard somewhere that even bad pigeons can win on the darkness but when they are yearlings they go back to being bad pigeons and that is why a lot of people say there darkness birds are no good as yearlings. On natural you would lose all ya bad pigeons before they made yearlings.Just what i heard dunno how much truth is in it. Also i raced my young un's on natural last year the first few races i was mid table after the third or fourth race i was last man. This may have been because it was my first year and still learning but i was the only member in the club flying natural young birds after the second race .
  19. OO i like them how much do they sell for?
  20. we got a few lofts on my estate now.Two of em belong to young lads(13-14 year olds) so hopefully when they get there mates around one or two of them will take an interest.I think people need to be educated over pigeons not so much the kids more the parents.I mean what hobbies are left for a parent and child to team up in and compete nowadays. My lad is six and my girl is three both of them have named a pigeon or two and my lad helps to clean out with me.And now that the young un's are chippin out my kids will be telling everyone about the babies.Hopefully some people will take an interest.

    wear masks

my loft is very open and lots of air flow dust never seems to be a problem. If i did have a closed loft(maybe this year) i would wear a mask.I will be building an aviary for my stock birds this week or next and it will be totally open apart from the roof ,so again no dust. But after this i will be putting youngsters on darkness so a mask may have to be used.
  25. whats Calf manna? Since i started using cider vinegar and crushed garlic in water ive not had to treat for anything and birds look and feel great. garlic two days cider vinegar two days and fresh water for three.
