  3. Dead south is 50 mile the way the crow flies, however I can go south west like the race programmes go and get about 127 miles, but I’ll just be sticking to the line I want them to come from
  4. I am doing that this year trying something new Brian I can’t say if it will work but my birds have been trained to the coast a number of times and will as the weeks go on reduce the numbers they are let up in until their confident to come signally from the coast
  5. We live on top of wind turbines and have for years never been a problem in the past, this years losses are high could it be wind turbines I very much doubt it
  6. Can Walter give lnformation on how he feeds with distance racing in mind. What grain does he use? What titbits? Any supplements? Does he change things as the time gets closer?
  7. Our sec on north gets £500 a year that’s without ets
  8. Young bird training going well with some tosses even before the so called day break, the hope is to beat the heat and temperatures down here but hopefully it teaches them valuable lesson of flying in low light which I think could pay dividens for the long distance races of there future. The last few weeks has seen me seriously contemplating on what direction of the sport on the south I wish to take, and I keep pushing towards the idea of aiming for all out distance races. If this is the case I may have to release some stock from the team, which would be a shame as all have been here many years producing many winners and prize winners at sprinting and helped form my current day family. Next season my way of feeding will dramatically change. The aim upto 300 miles is feeding the Koopman beyers mixture with 20% paddy rice and 20% barley added and feeding the birds to appetite. 300 miles plus would see me hopper feeding the birds with koopman mixture infront of them at all times. I have been trialing a new product which is based on beetroot juice and currently the pigeons have been on it for 7 days, and where previously because they had been trained hard there exercise period around the lofts was 20-30 minutes, they are now ranging and going for over an hour plus. These have been trained hard right upto the newhaven coast. But with temperatures in the 30s I won’t be racing them at least not yet.An article deplicting dehydrating swifts tells me enough. If it’s hitting Mother Nature it will affect us. A lot of federation from what I heard had a disaster with young birds last week, and for sure the temperatures played apart. On the continent they reduce numbers in the crates when it’s like this, and sometimes cancel the races full stop. We as a sport in the U.K. need to get out of the rut that we must race every single week and every race. Be your own convoyed guys and if in doubt leave them out.
  9. Comments like that would motivate me mate. An old saying was “if no one is talking about you, then your not doing your job right†keep doing what your doing and if you think not feeding on a Friday is correct stick with it!!
  10. Well done
  11. Found out we was earliest in our marking station from Littlehampton by some 7 minutes on Saturday, taking that to 4 inland. Bicc Le Mans 241 Miles, marking on Thursday with 3 of my 5 entries having there first channel race of the year after being turnt 2 weeks back. At basketing they will all be on small youngsters between 2-5 days. The youngsters were at the coast on Sunday training 50 miles away. The second team with work I have been slightly behind with them but I must catch up with the other team, but there is no rush. I was also at the lofts at Dave Hales and Duncan Goodchild’s on Sunday, and had a brilliant few hours talking and handling quality pigeons. I was really really impressed with the pigeons and the unique loft design
  12. Haven’t really had much time to update this thread for a while now..... so how has the old bird season gone. This year I decided to race only in the one North Road club, and won over 6 x1st prizes, 2 x 1st Federation, and also had a 6th and 7th London North Road Combine. I didn’t compete in every race so I was very pleased and with Thurso just gone I’ve decided that will be my last race on the North Road. So how did the birds turned south go? So far they have won inland 3 times in the marking station, being the most westerly loft in club and federation by some distance. My aim this season was to have 1 top 100 position in the bicc I would deem a success, with turnt round birds. In the first race from falaise we was 127th Open 51st Section. In the second race from alencon we was 39th,40th, 191st Open, 18th,19th, 68th section. The south road bug is there fully installed, I now want to build a team to concentrate on the longer distance racing and that’s my goal over the next 3 seasons. So young birds have been trained to as far as the coast. If the wind and weather stays as it has been the young birds will just be trained with there first races being the first Bicc, as I feel these persistent east winds is where a lot of loses throughout the U.K. have been this year. However with them being well schooled and inland races being very short distances when he time is right they could go into the race for some transporter experience. But the aim is to come away from club racing and concentrate on the channel with the various nationals we can be a member of down here, so will look to join the NFC and BBC so I can have more options with my racing next season
  13. Well done to my good friend Tony Calverly and silent partner Lenny Jenkins on a fantastic year flying in the London North Road combine, winning the prestigious Tommy Long Trophy, your names amongst the greats on that trophy it’s one achievement that will never be forgotten, over the moon for you guys well done, and also fantastic to win the best three bird average from Thurso Ryan & Alfie
  14. Tony also won the prestigious Tommy Long trophy this season well done mush!!
  15. The pad is £132 I bought one last week with £6.60 postage, the cables you need are the 9 pin RS232 cables and can be bought on eBay cheap as chips I bought 10 meter one for £6.89
  16. First signs of young bird sickness they stop listening!!!! Another sign is an out of the ordinary loft performance!!! Be vigilant i personally think it’s going to raise its ugly head
  17. The pulling of tail feather is an old trick that does work, a lot of young bird specialist used to do it before the important races
  18. He looks a lot better then you described him Sue....looks a Bonny pigeon and I don’t think he looks his age at all I’ve seen many pigeons that do look and handle their age upto 23 years old
  19. Looking for this book, mine was loaned out many years ago, and was never returned. Looking to buy
  20. We could say that about every supplement or potions that fanciers use in the game, everyone believes what they give their birds achieves something. I pick up the pigeon book every week and novices must be the same and see what supplement fancier X gives, it’s one reason why novices that listen to too many sources don’t progress as the chop and change things, instead of sticking to one plan.
