    Daves Diva

One of the biggest advantages of moving out of the big smoke and into Essex means I can visit my good friend Duncan Goodchild, who looks after the birds and lofts of the late legend Dave Hales. I popped round this morning for a cup of tea and a chat and we got round to talking and looking at Daves Diva. Who is probably the most under-rated hens racing into the UK on the international distance scene, especially since she has only ever been entered and flown in 4 international races. However in these 4 races, she has an impressive record of; 4th Open, 1st Section Agen BICC, 245th International hens 4563 birds, 534 miles 4th Open, 4th Section Perpignan BICC, 499th International Hens 3289 Birds, 631 miles 6th Open, 4th Section Agen BICC, 147th International Hens 4666 birds, 731st international 12,099 birds, 534 miles 8th Open, 5th Section Narbonne BICC, 595 miles A terrific record at international racing with the BICC, interesting to add Daves Diva has been the best bird in the UK over 2 years from Agen in 2018-2019, when both races were extremely tough due to the extreme heat that France was having on both years. Her results from the BICC have awarded her a Certificate of Merit Award in recognition of this heart of a lion bird. To add to her achievements she also had a 21st Open from Bordeaux with the BBC 467 miles Her Bloodline? Well it's no shock as class breeds class! She is a direct daughter of Comfort Zone, 1st Open Marseille BICC in 2015, and she is also a granddaughter of the Immortal Tubby (Certificate of Merit Award winner, 2nd Sec E, 3rd Open BICC, 667th International Marseille 11244 birds 637 miles, 2nd Sec E, 9th Open BICC, 110th International Pau 8576 birds 575 miles on the day, 7th Sec E, 7th Open BICC Pau on the day, 8th Sec E, 8th Open BICC Marseille, and a breeder of a dynasty of top distance pigeons) So it's a no brainer when embarking on the south road change and distance journey that I have put Daves Diva as the base of my loft, and I have been very lucky to have a half Brother and Sister, 2 nephews, a niece, and a fantastic daughter when Daves Diva was paired to Just For John another Meritorious award winner for 3rd, 7th and 13th Open Perpignan with the BICC. Complimented with birds from Mark Bulled, Geoff & Clayton Preece, John Chipperfield, and Darran McFadden, the blood is there, just down to me and Dad to play our part of the game. I feel in the future well be hearing alot more about this great hen and her descendents, hopefully in my loft and I am sure many others
  12. First year in 20 years I think that I'm not going to Blackpool

    Yb Feeding

Yes but wouldn't change my opinion of how to feed during racing, as racing young birds is a an art if you want to be successful with ybs, my ways have changed dramatically and yb racing is no interest to me anymore
  14. Wiley

    Yb Feeding

I was always against a heavy protein mixture for ybs, this year the birds got beans from weaning and would run upto 3 hours some days! This shocked me as it was against everything I believed in, there was also no yb sickness and the health was always spot on! The feed was changed for racing but tbh I was more concerned about the experience the ybs received then anything else as I didn't take a clock out all yb season
  15. Can only speak of my own experience and Ive tried plenty
  16. Never done well with unc birds here
  17. I have been extremely privileged in my time of racing pigeons, whether that's scribing or being friends with certain fanciers who had champion pigeons. However I think this old boy although no longer filling tops the lot for myself as my all time favourite, he is of course Champion Tubby, Certificate of Merit Award winner, 2nd Sec E, 3rd Open BICC, 667th International Marseille 11244 birds 637 miles, 2nd Sec E, 9th Open BICC, 110th International Pau 8576 birds 575 miles on the day, 7th Sec E, 7th Open BICC Pau on the day, 8th Sec E, 8th Open BICC Marseille, Sire of 2nd Marseille, 3rd Perpignan, 7th Perpignan, 8th Pau, 13th Perpignan etc GSire of 4th Perpignan, 4th Agen, 6th Agen, 8th Narbonne etc Sire and G. Sire of Meritorious award winners
  18. Drooping wing, blown out feathers and hunched up are you sure there isn't a health issue there Peter? From what your describing it sounds like symptoms of paratyphoid, or streppi? I think and know of many winners to come from old stock, and the quality of rearing never changed from when they was younger, so I do not think it is an age thing?
  19. Wiley

    Feeding

When I was sprinting the birds would be on Barley only from the time their ybs left the nest which was always mid January right up until the week of the first race!! Now they'll stay on beans and barley until I pair the widowhood up in late February and the naturals up in 2nd week april
  20. Wingdown x lil gem
  21. As many on basics will be aware the last year and a half the focus of my pigeon racing has been turning the pigeons from the North route to the south route, with the sole ambition is to build a team for international racing. With that in mind my sprint/middle distance team which I had built for many years with a lot of success were released and a new era at the loft is currently being created. Inductions came from the lofts of D Bullen & Son (direct son of rainy day boy 1st International Pau), Mark Bulled (direct son of legacy & Sgt Cecil) G & M Preece & Son (Direct Son Of Jack Jones), Dave Hales and Duncan Goodchild(The best has come from this loft, with many introductions), John Chipperfield (direct daughter of Lady Teresa 1st and 2nd Bicc), Darren Mcfadden ( Daughter of Megan's lad and Razors Girl), also Grandchildren of Wingdown and Little Gem, to supplement the stock young birds were also purchased to race from Dave Hales, Kirk Bullen. John Chipperfield also kindly bred me 6 ybs to try this season also. With this seasons losses at the channel with a team of yearlings and young bird racing with the new team being minimal, it leaves me in a position with the biggest team of old birds I have ever had, meaning the young bird team for next season will be much smaller then I've bred in a number of years, and because of this I offer to the fancy a select draft of young birds from the race team in 2 groups of 6, @ £300. These young birds are bred for distance racing in mind and as you can see no expense has been spared to create a team for the distance There will also be a select number of young birds available throughout the year from the stock team, price on application.
  22. Wiley

    Moult

Yes a good toss and only takes 40 minutes, I do go and buy enough to last me till February so next time I have to go I'm ready for breeding
  23. Wiley

    Moult

Neila I get mine in Maidstone Kent, Beans/maple mix for £8 a bag and barley at £4 a bag, all farmed by pigeon fanciers, so the barley is top quality and cut and clipped correctly
  24. Wiley

    Moult

My methods have completely changed 50/50 barley and beans
  25. I would have the hens on 100% barley apart from Friday and Saturday, and apart from those 2 days it would be less then 1 oz
