  1. Take a photo please sue
  2. Peter do you think your being fair on your latebreds? A fancier done exactly as your thinking of doing the weekend just gone his returns were shocking when the rest of convoy had 99% returns he had only 10 home from 33, and like you he is an experienced fancier. I also can never understand the logic birds not prepared probably hold back the convoy on the lib site so I think they are not being fair on their own birds and not being fair on fanciers who have done there job right
  3. Young bird racing for me is they must be trained hard and often if you want to be successful with them. I don’t agree with the old age statement you can take to much out of them, I believe they thrive on hard work. Usually I train as many times as I can on my own until week of first race then I try to get them onto a transporter if there is one. If no transporter I would ask a friend if I could take his birds training for the week to get them used to breaking from the bunch. I believe young birds tell ya when they are ready, and many fanciers can miss the boat. Once the sex drive kicks in and there exercise period decreases you know you’ve missed it. The old adage of 12 weeks of age seems to be the best as long as they are flying well. Overnight tossing is something I also believe in on the last week. Every night basket up and taken for a spin or on the transporter, I believe it takes away the young birds usual bad trapping on a first race as they then aren’t nervous
  4. My first round could really go in the basket and start training but will leave it a little while longer
  5. Didn’t Dave Allen move once because of a roundabout reckoned the birds were flying around it.
  6. Was at the lofts of D Bullen & Son the international winners on Tuesday to collect 6 ybs to race at the distance on the south all grandchildren of Isla Rainy Day Boy. Was a great day out and good excuse to give the south roaders an 11 mile run out. Will be at Epsom at the weekend and hopefully speak to someone regarding ets to find out what is needed and how much it going to cost as would like to be using this by the time the yb season comes around as only heard good things about it
  7. What vet have you used? If a culture has been made it takes 3-5 days to get results, it is not like a simple cocci canker worms test that you’ll receive in less then 24hrs
  8. Funny smell from the droppings would suggest a yeast infection....but I cannot tell you for certain, get a culture test done
  9. Do yourself a favour get them tested with a culture test, find the right treatment for the pigeons
  10. Nope never heard of it, my vandenbrande and my sticker doncker lines heavily influenced by Leo’s and all lay within 14 days.....was they overweight?
  11. Happy birthday
  12. My season starts April 7th, weather permitting I will start training tomorrow......but I must state my birds are already fit and have been flying regularly since December.
  13. I keep an eye out on the length of daylight at the moment we are getting 11 1/2 hours down here should the birds will be going on the dark within the next week, and will be coming off late june
  14. Been having a think of what I may do everything with these three cocks is subject to change but my thoughts are still food infront of them at all times, and only barley for the first three races I am still considering. I think for the channel I’d probably try something along these lines. It will be a learning curve on the south this year Saturday - Barley Sunday - Barley Monday - Barley Tuesday - Barley Wednesday - 50% Barley 50% extreme energy Thursday - Extreme energy Friday - Extremem energy This I will tweak as the distance increases, that’s if they are still in the team
  15. Had a photo done of Nearly Frank. I lost this cock two seasons ago what was meant to be his last race before going to stock. Sire and grandsire of winners, uncle to federation bird of the year.
  16. I was second fed to the pigeon...should have got the mans pigeon tested
  17. I remember fancier telling me he had a hen do that once on a Friday night it topped the Fed the next day true story!
  18. Two nice pigeons billy
  19. Depending on the room you have I’d try the system of chaos. Run them all together let them do as they like once first pair sat 10 days regardless of what position any of the others are at, separate them. And remove all from section cocks and hens obviously separated. Then run together to do there own thing again on a Friday in the room of love.
  20. Saw something on Facebook using a rubber band where you wrapped it round the birds foot tightly and held it for some time, took band of and ring slipped on...it was a video
  21. Malting barley is the barley before it’s gone through the process mate
  22. “immersing barley in water to encourage the grain to sprout, then drying the barley to halt the progress when the sprouting begins†put simply mate
  23. Barley, if you can get it the best is MALTED barley that has been through the malting process
  24. While the birds where out today which they flew really well I must add London had real nice day today and the birds had an extra zip in there stride it seemed, myself and Dad had a chat and we’ll be racing young birds this year 100% south road, but still stick with the plan of playing with a few old birds on the south and the north. In a partnership it’s about the compromise. Having the birds on the one route will make life easier so look forward to the new challenges south road will throw at us. I recently bought two young birds in a phone in sale from fancier Darren McFadden so I look forward to obtain them and hopefully visiting his lofts and to find out his ways of racing and any advice he could possibly give us for the south road
