As I rarely catch my birds thought I'd put pic of this cock as I had to lift him to steal his eggs still got 40 birds but not raced since '86, mine are fed poultry corn and water and nothing else, they look and handle in great nick

Sounds like your young birds have been together, perhaps someone trying to break them and ended losing some of their own ;D

No I'm afraid you can't tell by looks, that is the danger of gift birds you wont know until you try them, unless the doner has given you information on the birds
