  11. Spot on, how very true is that
  12. I just told the wife she's cooked her goose stoking that fire up ;D
  13. Thanks for that lads, not heard the salt one before, was told that when inglenooks were dirty they used to shoot the 12bore up there , sounds good to me ;D
  14. Yeh it's on the cards Phil , Thanks Andy
  15. Thats the worrying bit Phil I did it recently, it's an inglenook fire but we've had lined so it would contain a fire but it's very windy here and the sparks rolling down the roof were getting me worried, ah well time for a move, 15mls from the nearest station is a bit much, looking on the bright side we're all ok :-/
  16. Just had a scare with the log burner, wife stoking the fire up, going great, then we heard a roar chimney burning like a goodun, flames and sparks shooting out the top, I thought I'd let it burn out but the sparks were rolling down the roof, so we called the brigade in, living in the sticks has its drawbacks, took 20mins. to get here and couldn't get up the drive, about 100yds to the yard but the lads did a good job and we've just cleaned up. But it's a bit worrying to think how it could have turned out.
  17. If they are refering to pigeons it sounds like vit. b12 deficiancy, if the fancier too much alcohol ;D
  18. Don't push her too hard, could be a breeder rather than a racer, the basket isn't everything
  19. Looking good, I think your lad has another career looming , they'd go a bomb on here
  20. Totally agree with bugsy on this topic, I think breeding is 80% fancier and 20% bird, give good birds to a poor fancier and they will soon be poor birds, poor bird to a good fancier in a couple of seaspns will be better birds
  21. Thats what worked in your family, the ones carrying the pied gene were obviously the better ones
  22. Think I'd have to live with the infection for a while ;D
  23. One of those questions we dislike answering, truth is we all have differant ideas, some people train y/b's regularly and some not at all, some train line of flight and me I don't, i think if y/b's are flying well at home don't be in a hurry to get them in the basket, I find this can stop them flying so well at home, line of flight is the most direct line from release to home but as far as I'm concerned that is natural to a race pigeon, they are homers
  24. All I can say looking at that lot is not surprising your birds don't come home ;D ;D
  25. Mine have been self selecting for over 20yrs and they don't swap mates but like most things, prone to a little nookie when available ;D
