  1. Good ones. :D
  2. Happy birthday.
  3. Good morning all.
  4. W G Davidson from Kilwinning, an Ardeer Club member, flew Palamos and was well known for this in Kilwinning. I heard him derided for the length of time it took his pigeons to home, but he sent and homed quite a few times. At that time the focus was on how far could the pigeon home from, sort of pushing the distance boundaries, but I am sure there were far fewer peregrines in the sky. The had been culled during the war to ensure the safety of the war pigeons, there were regular culls with fanciers behind the guns and of course the DDT. Changed days!! There is an increasing interest in Barcelona. Irish fanciers are showing quite some interest and Jim Emerton has promoted the race for some time, putting up prizes for pigeons flying over 800? miles. A marathon event? Probably, but a modern record or phenomenon if it could be achieved again at over 1000 miles!! Michael Feeney from Dublin has purchased a draft of Polish pigeons from their Barcelona 2015 winner at over 1000 miles in an attempt at flying into Ireland.
  5. I raised the matter of the FCI Logo at SHU council a few years ago. Initially they felt it would not be cost effective, but John Bird from Prestonpans also mentioned about the Combe's and said there were others. We used to have a deal with the NEHU, but this is now defunct, so we are no longer members of the Federation Colombile International. We are still investigating the matter, but it is not straightforward gaining the required information, neither is it guaranteed that we will be accepted. Without the logo, no pigeon registered after 2015 is accepted into International races. You are still able to race with the BICC or BBC from the International races, however your result will be National only, akin to Federation duplication with the SNFC. Some do it, some just fly with the Fed and therefore do not get on the SNFC result. In the meantime GB rings or, I think, NEHU rings are the only UK rings carrying the FCI Logo.
  6. Roland, if you can find out who the owners are, see if they are able to encourage the cats to hunt in the cathedral spires. They might gain a taste for peregrine.
  7. Good morning all.
  8. Good early afternoon all.
  9. Looking good.
  10. Looking good Jim. Good having a mate like Walter, who makes himself available to assist you. I'm sure you help him out when you are required as well.
  11. Good morning all.
  12. Happy birthday.
  13. During the 70's there were a few fanciers in Ayrshire that attempted Barcelona / Palamos. I am sure there was some form of club, Scotland wide, where the members attempted Palamos.
  14. Looks smart and fresh, Alex.
  15. Good morning all.
  16. I have my doubts about the greatness of the British Empire since most of the countries, let alone the peoples, were raped in a sense by the British invaders, however the sentiment of a knighthood being a military honour rings true to a point. For quite some time, a knighthood has been bestowed for non-military reasons. It remains, nevertheless, an honour. Even in the days when it was bestowed for military purposes, it was at times incorrectly bestowed and "wrong uns" received it. There is always room for a "wrong un" to receive it in modern times, this, however, does not alter the fact that it is an honour.
  17. Good.
  18. Well done Steven. I bet you are glad you do the scraping out for Graeme. :D

  22. As a mere novice in this game, I have put up views and opinions; free advice!!! Some may say it is expensive, but then I normally qualify it by stating my novice status and I do not force anyone to read what I type. If they take up my expensive free advice, then that is their decision.
  23. I have never heard of the big Quinn. Manfred Mann sang about the mighty Quinn. :D
