    Race day

Learning them to trap starts when they're y/birds. You go through a few stages but the first one is to make them realise who's the boss. Gone are the days when I stood a couple of yards from the loft shaking the tin & throwing in grub to the back of the loft. I now stand in the doorway and they have to clamber past me to get in, between my legs, over my shoulders, in off me head ;D (lost me hairnet many a time ;D) if they don’t go past me they go without. I do this every time I get them in, in the end they get programmed in that they see me open the doors, walk into the loft and they follow. When they start exercising around the loft and they're looking to land I do the same, open the loft and they're down and in.
  2. Things will work out fine andrecrock, its a long season.
  3. I reckon its got a bit of Collared dove in it.
  4. I have high hopes for a 2 year old cock, as a yearling he topped the fed twice and got a 2nd combine. Now if that aint a kiss of death I dont know what is.
  5. I must be crackers but what I've always done is sieve out all the small stuff from whatever breeding mix I've been using and feed them only on the big grains for the first week of being weaned. Nothing worse than seeing a squeaker only eating small grains and running around with its wings open.
  6. Get well soon Rose.
  7. All the best guys and thanks for volunteering your free time to the No.1 pigeon forum on the net.
  8. What company would relocate then put in for a license :-/ surely this sort of thing would have been sorted first. A little bit more than meets the eye me thinks.
  9. Scenario. A club official calls at an ETS users loft and deems the trap in he’s/hers opinion is not within the rules set out, he’s/hers interpretation differs from that of the ETS user. The way I see it the club will have to back the official as it was them that put him/her in the job. Its going to be a bit like the offside rule, active or not? your just going to have to go with the refs decision. Murphy’s law says if it can happen it will!
  10. Can you? I dont know.
  11. If something can be interpreted in more than one way the rule needs to be looked at. This rule was discussed at the last London Region meeting and it was felt that rule 241 needs clarifying.
  12. Landing board/trap whats the difference? to me its all one and the same.
  13. As you asked so nice > 241. The antennae of the ETS must be fitted within the confines of the loft or trapping systems, not underneath external landing boards. Club officials may make random checks at any time. Contravention of this rule will result in disciplinary action under rule 70A.
  14. Looks illegal.
  15. Your to be congratulated Vallance, well done!
  16. The 2nd round of my stock birds are due to hatch this week, these youngsters will be put on the darkness.
  17. I put these sheets on my young bird loft 3 years ago and cant fault them. I cut a series of squars in the old roof first to give that bit of added ventilation and just laid them over the top.

  21. Leroy when you hear people say that have raced pigeons for 20-30years + and they’re still learning gives you some indication of just how much there is to be learnt. There’s many books, videos, sites like this that you can glean information from but none of these are a substitute for experience. Learning the basics of management in my opinion would be best done by just concentrating on sprint racing to start with for the simple reason it is much more forgiving . Make a mistake in a sprint race and the chances are you’ll see that pigeon again, making it in a 500 mile race wont afford you that luxury. Good luck & enjoy.
  22. Thought this would make you look Joe61 :K) ;D
  23. Thanks blaz, would Berwick be a better alternative.
  24. Roland have you not got to be a member of a club to fly in a Fed. A Federation is made up of clubs which are the members, Individuals are members of the club and not the Fed (if this makes sense)
