I believe nowadays with many fanciers racing their youngsters on the darkness an opportunity had arisen. In the past the 3rd round youngsters from their stock would have supplemented their race team, now as they'll be to late to put on the darkness fanciers are instead selling these. To late for the darkness but not to late if you want to fly them natural. My advise would be look to buy these 3rd round youngsters from their stock.

Pop a dozen peas down its throat every couple of hours for today and the last feed tonight feed as much as you can. A pigeon has a crop which will hold 1oz of food easily at that age. If all is well by the morning you'll notice its droppings much firmer, if this is the case you only need to feed it 2-3 times a day from then on around 1-1 1/2oz split over the day

This will give you some idea how to go about it. You will have to hold the pigeon a little firmer than the one shown here and more than likely will have to push the food down its throat.
