  1. Would personally go 'Outside' of my area, and contact a person that could put me wise as to just who does fly a good bird at the distance regularly! Would preferably buy in some Latebreds. Would do if possible, two or three different locations. Keep them seperate for starters... then after Mr Basket has sorted, mix the yougsters up over a period of time, being sure never to mate any close to each other. Other than that, I'd would mate Kind to Kind. Size to size etc. Don't believe in Eye Sign except for Viril and health matters, but would where possible mate opposite eye colours.
  2. Never mind the 'Goverment/ thing, all been the same since 1955!!! :o No votes, and greasy palms nodd nodd and wink wink. NO VOTES in it for them! No meadia Coverage for them. NOT a 'Cause to fight! No one in the public KNOWS! and those that do 'DON'T Care'! So whay ny one thinks a goverment / M P would give a fickled rat's behind not only mystifys me, but borders on ignorance of their codes. Every time a case of cruelty is mention in the 'Media' the RSPCA /RSPB and out getting known and shaking their money tins! And lapping up the limelight and media coverage.... Never mind that do nowt in between, Joe Public doesn't know or care!!! But if it was a 'Cause' to have a 'Wagon' rolling as a vote catcher, attension enabling venture, then many MP's would rally to the cause.... But then why should they care? :-/ :-/ We and other concerns affected don't! :B
  3. allenyeates that is how around here have always been taught and know it!
  4. Owen Wrote Quote'..... The Falcons would become a nuisance to game farms and the like. And they would have to move away from the towns and cities if they want to eat. A lot of the Land Owners, who rely on game for a living, have a lot of influence and I am sure they would become active against the RSPB antics. True, but!!! they are already a nuisance and pain in the but for Farmers, land owners etc. They won't team up... all moan, nowt constructive will ever be done... That's why we are all sad jokes not to be taken seriously by the RSPB.... Want someone else to walk the walk and tread the boards, even to talk the talk... any one bar us!
  5. Agree 100% and More.... Been spouting on about it for 10 years, never had one, out side a couple of M.P.'s and three E.M.P.'s been interested.... NOT ONE pigeon fancier, or any other body affected by this problem. Bilco use to bang the drum too to no avail. 1955 Ruling of a temporary 'Protection Order'.... about time recinded for starters. M.P.s lobbyed. Marches, Public awareness exactly what the 'Ole dear's' will and other money donated to protect the robinds and finches etc. is really going to and doing! P.R. firm that has built in think tanks, Ears in Coridors of power, and means to getting our plight over in a realistic and understandable way to Joe Public.... 50P each member... far too dear eh! what about a quiddy!!! RPRA have stated through leaks that they won't go down this route purely because of members' back lash of WASTING their money ... Still waiting for some idle buisnessmen with nothing to do to pay and do it for nother :-/ :o had a EMO whose father was a renowned fancier, wrote to some offering his service and willing to get, with others aboad... never even got a reply!!! bleat bleat, spout 'Others should' and 'We shouldn't have too' is all one will get in this regards I'm afraid.
  6. Can't see where you are coming from...!!! :-/ :-/ :-/ Who said anything about Live Bait? Indeed the Canaries never see any thing and are definately not hurt. Yep may jump when the Hawk hits up at the TANK1 Other than that, just have to treat the hawk for a sore head.
  7. A glass cage made of toughen Glass. Mesh bottom. Back glass etc. for a door to open to glue some twigs, perches in. Preferable on a Pole stand, where you intend to place the cock Canaries in.
  8. Yeah ... his wife lol :P ;D ;D
  9. Yes and Masserella was not only a 1st class and very able flyer - fed positions often dominated, he was an absolutely great 'Stockman'. He wasn't born wealthy etc. he was a real Rag to Ritches' man thay learnt and applied wisom in breeding. Same as his Arabian Stallions. Like I say, some stand out because that have a naturual affinity with their' love / hobby. Born rather than taught, but so quickly understanding. Like a wise man said 'Some see instantly what other will in a life time'. That is the key to sucess in every walk of life I believe.
  10. As for Feather merchants ever being 'Controlled by guide lines.... Well will never happen, and mainly because there is Big money earnt every year from it via THOSE that have the 'Money'. Never mind the back garden 'Cheater/ tight on truth guy' they would quickly clobber him if needs be.... but they add 'Sells' to the bigger con - merchants after the little conner has skint them ... why they go to a 'Name' to get fleeced. Where's there money there'ss crooks, and fool anf his money are soon parted. So we put it down to Expierence etc. ...... Still I suppose it it makes it easier to live with being conned for a lot more because he is a Name eh! :o :-/ :-/
  11. Most Studs, for a variety of reasons, don't race. All realistically flimsy, economical in truth I believe. The main truthful o reason is, as Dean Pallet states 'To sell birds if you race, you must be winning'. Now as for birds and their' conditions in the loft... this winter, like those i the glorious past, destroy most, if not all, 'Nasties'. So wouldn't in the least be perturbed as to the state of ANY loft, any time of the year. 99% of it is what one relates to in a Human term. They are not humans, and if really treated as such would be in all honesty useless. Most good old birds are seldom any good as y/b's. They grow and mature to their full potentials. So in all honesty 3 years is the time to be great, or an also ran. 'Florida Lofts' mucker states further, that if a newbie is going to be any good, 3 years will tell you! Any stud that GIVES a pair to a newbie is to be thanked, and, regardless why he has given, to be appreciated. A great flyer bought in big time Van Eider birds are great cost direct. 2 years later was still very disappointed in them. So was going to clear the lot out. A mate, another household name, said he'd fancy a shot with them, and how much. Nothing was the price to save culling them, and quickly agreed to. You've guessed it; they dominated his area and still are doing well. The fancier that let them go is please for him, and they are still great friends. Horses to courses, and being 'Happy and Content' in their hotels we afford them eh!
  12. Yep, and chuck away the scraper... just a spade, or a mini JCB LOL ;D ;D
  13. Seems that Nature has had to take a back seat in very many different ways.... and not just in our sport. But lets stay with our sport. Was a time when we were worried about the 'Inner fat' in the hen birds, and their laying and keeping things ship shape to pass on to the youngsters... likewise the Cock bird. Let some of mine together for instance about last Monday to pair up. The swoop in the skies, they up and away at the least sound etc. Tread and take off etc. and are i and out the loft fetching twigs, nails and what have you. Then they up and away to fly the skies again. I know my birds are fit, knew they were fit to mate. Bodies are in fine fettle, and the desire to chase and court is naturally strong..... What about the stock birds? Their’ youngsters, and their’ g.grand children. Most never see over the fence, let alone fly with gusto and freedom, just for the sheer hell of it! Like the y/b's eh! Now just what, and how are we really able to compensate them for this? Never mind that in a fitness context, what about their mental state too? How are they suppose to feel and produce?
  14. Gosh! that propaganda was put about 25 years ago :-/ :-/... laughed at then... and after 1988 when they did a programme dismissing it etc. 8) 8) Then they got into trouble for being stupid and extending April fools day lol ;D ;D P.s, for any one interested it was thought a good idea at the time... but no truth in it whatsoever.
  15. Albatrosses actually cover 3000 miles in 6 days to home when removed away. Yes they can actually home like pigeons.
  16. AQny bird for that... if can't do that and are it, love their home and are content.... best thing about not making it is that you won't be breeding youngsters like them.
  17. Paulo I need there was something amiss when you kept forgetting to send me some Cheques lol.
  18. pigeonboyuk wrote, Quote '....get where your coming from but the theory on no virus not necessarily true, you can (and most do) still carry the virus but safely, providing you don't give that virus the chance to obtain a host which is what it needs to become effective. by minimizing the stress factors in the birds it means that the reduction of suitable hosts are also minimized. this would be called a 'false positve' in a blood test because if you tested for the virus itself it would probably be present but in a dormant state. does that make sense? Agree to some extent. Hence provention is better than cure. Now like he said in a earlier post, 'We have been mucking them about ... etc. for our own wants and desires. One of my strong beliefs is too much inbreeding - especially via those that haven't the foggiest why and how to do it properly. LIKE they say it is the OUTCROSS that is all important. We know that close relationship regards births have catoscropic consequence. Been proved time after time, indeed in Royalty, etc. from before Roman times... even laws making it unlawful for these very reasons. Yet many do regardless. That's just one thing I believe that has caused dire consequences
  19. Because PREVENTION is far far better than cure. Lime can get into the eyes of course if leaft to blow about. I scrape mine into the wood, or dabb on with a damp rag. Kneew a farmer that cleansed his loft big time every two seasons after race season. Took the birds out for a month. Was in dep litter. Spaded it out, scraped clean etc. then poured on the cresote. When dried, a week later birds were rehoused. Never had any ailments.

  22. Feel, once again, that some should look at a dictionary and interpret 'Confines' and 'Confined' and while one's at it 'Confine' eh! Then re - read the wording of the ruling!
  23. ;D ;D A man of realism. Like I say, many can't have a et set up, for that reason or cost.... But what the heck, who cares that has one eh! :o :B Sending for mine week - end.... have remorgagd the house lol cos I need 2000 et rings as I want to clock in 120 before anyone else lol :P ;D ;D ;D

  25. pjc dont tell fanciers not to disinfect there lofts it kills all germs a lot of our club members in fact all disinfect i would encourage it idsinfect my birds 3 times just now and every day in the racing season i have 4ft corridor all my birds are seperated into this cage sprayed with the best maff disin 100% correct! Sanitation is -In these days especially - every thing. Proventive far far better than cure every time. Samonella for example can quickly come in as a secondarily desiese etc. No one wants that I can assure you all. So prevention is a must... And at best can do no harm. i know I even hear once or twice that Lime would encourage Samonella! EEK what balony.
